Ok, I bought my SZ120P/B literally 2 days ago from Circuit City. When I turned it on everything seemed fine but a few hours later it just turned off...and when I tried turning it back on, it would get to the windows screen and just turn off. I eventually got it back through windows just by restarting multiple times, but it again did it last night. This time, it gets all the way through to start up windows, I see my desktop and all of the icons, and then it all just goes away...and all I have left is my background picture. I get this error that says "Protector Suite: Cannot create instance of class 'CID_WebProtModule' with interface 'IID_PPModule.' No shell windows interface available." What does this mean and how do I fix it?? Should I call Sony or just return it to Circuit City for a new one? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Reinstall windows if you made your recovery disks, did you uninstall any bloatware?

I don't have any recovery disks..and yes I did uninstall some of the stuff they put on the computer, but I don't think that was until after it was turning off randomly.

How about your recovery partition...you can always restore from that.

recovery partition is a partition sony made..that holds are all factory stuff...incase ur windows dies or smtn.

Just make the recovery DVD's and delete the partition...thats what I did.
Why keep a partition thats pretty useless (as you already have the DVD's) and takes around 7GB space.

How do I exactly do that? Because when Windows loads up, I literally have a blank screen. Or since I'm inexperienced at all this, should I just return to Circuit City....they would take it back right?

Windows will load all the way up like it has no problems, then when my desktop pops up, I see my background picture and all of my icons like normal. But in approx. 30 secs, ALL of the icons go away and all i have is my background picture. I try and right click to see options but I get nothing. In subsequent tries, during those 30 secs. I would try to open of IE and it works fine, but the error message I wrote above pops up. And as soon as I minimize or close off IE i'm left with just my desktop picture...

Did you try to open start...even with the keyboard options, like Ctrl+Esc, or the Windows Key?

In 30 secs I can open the start button go to programs and open the update thing, after which you should be ok.

    Try that.

I would take it back to CC and either make them fix or replace. It's theirs and Sony's problem - you shouldn't have to be trying to figure this out on your own, especially if you did nothing to cause it.

Yes, I did try to open start but even with it open, when it goes to the background page I lose it. I tried using the keyboard options and those don't work.

Ok go to your BIOS (F2 at startup) and in boot sequence choose your other partition to start up, then save changes and exit.

    You should be ok then.

Ok, I'll give that a shot and if it doesn't work, I'll take it back to Circuit City. Thanks so much for your help!

So as I was trying to do what was suggested, I somehow got to the Sony disk recovery prompt which said it would restore everything back to the original software/settings. I decided to do this because I didn't have anything saved on the laptop since I only had it for a couple of days. I am able to get through and use my computer now but it turned off randomly again last night. I'm going to take it into Circuit City and exchange for a new one. Thanks for your help! :)
