    Hi,

Does anyone actually use Windows XP on their new 2010 Z11 (Nvidia GT 330M, SSD, etc.) instead of Windows 7?

I know it's officially supported, and there should be drivers from Sony for XP and everything.

But my questions are to anyone with first hand experience. How good is the support? Do you feel like XP is a usable OS on this laptop, or does XP severely limit the capabilities of the laptop compared to Windows 7?

I'm mostly interested in the graphics card performance under XP. Are there any problems with the Hybrid graphics under XP?

What about the SSD, any issues there?

    Thanks. :)

P.S. I know 7 is a cool OS, but I just want to know whether falling back to XP on this laptop would be a viable option or not. It's always nice to have options.

Why would you even do that? Makes no sense when 7 has the speed and better security and speed of xp.
If you need a special app thats there's xp mode, WIN7 pro and ultimate has that virtual XP thing.

I purchased my last comp with an XP downgrade. I did this because I did not want Vista. I took a Vista laptop home for two days and realized it was a mistake and returned it. I purchased a business class Sony that day because it had XP and would not have it any other way. When I purchase a new box I will get 7. From what I have looked at and read 7 is better than XP . XP is better than Vista for what I need. I have looked into XP mode and it is limited with graphics. I read about aftermarket software that will allow you to run several operating systems virtually, up to your processors ability to do so. You might not even need the virtualization hardware on your chip set to do this. Vmware may be the one I was looking at.

There's no reason to try to convince me to use one OS or another. I'm well aware of 7 and XP. I'm only trying to find out how well this 2010 Z laptop happens to run XP, and whether its a viable option.

I know on the previous gen Z series, XP runs without any major problems.

Anyway, I guess it'll be hard to find anyone who has tried XP on the 2010 Z. :/ But I'll give it a few days and see.

    Thanks anyway.

I don't think anyone in the forum uses XP with the new Z, but I might be mistakened.

I am going to do a reinstall again on the SSD RAID. I will try XP with Sony's original drivers. Will let you know if everything's ok.

Quite a few large companies only support XP. If using a business for work, having the ability to run XP (and not emulated XP) can be quite important.
Which is why most companies that sell to the business segment offer XP too.

I know. My dad works at Sony, and his work laptop is a prev-gen Z running XP. There are absolutely no issues with it.

I was just curious if that's the same case with the 2010 Z11. After all, it has some much newer technology, like the Nvidia GT 330M, auto-switchable graphics option (prev-gen Z had only two options: Nvidia and Intel, no auto), and SSD drives.

I hope that doesn't complicate things too much for XP.

XP Pro (x86) and all drivers installed successfully (around 7GB). Everything works ok except automatic gfx control - in order to change between speed/stamina mode a reboot is needed.

I am going to test the x64 XP soon.

Oh really? Is there no way to switch between stamina/speed on the fly?

What about the automatic hybrid graphics mode (the third switch position), is it at all supported?

Unfortunately no on the fly switch or automatic hybrid graphics mode.

Regarding x64 XP, it seems some of the original drivers provided by Sony do not have x64 drivers. So you have to check and download the relevant drivers from the manufacturer site (eg. Intel).

All right, that's too bad but acceptable I guess.

How's the performance with XP and SSDs? How long does it take from turning it on until you can open an internet browser and open any webpage?
