Hey I have an SZ thats just over a year old and the standard battery it came with is just getting horrible. Under normal usage, within 10 minutes of umplugging the computer from a power source, the battery goes from 100% to 50%....in TEN minutes. I'm lucky to get another 1.5 hrs after this point.

Obviously, my battery is shot. Should I just replace it with a new one or is there anything else I can do?

    Thank You.

Maybe your battery needs to be re-calibrated, but I doubt it if it goes to 100 to 50 in less than 10 minutes; it's worth a shot though.

Run your laptop on battery all the way down until it goes into sleep/standy mode. Then charge your laptop until it's full. If this doesn't fix it, your battery is probably shot, and it's probably time to buy a new one.

Battery is probably shot. After a year, my SZ battery only lasted about 20-25 min from a full charge. Within 4-5 minutes of unplugging the AC the battery would drop from 100% down to roughly 40-50%. From there it would drop still but slower.

I ended up replacing the battery, and now it works fine... get roughly what I did when I first got the laptop.

i would keep in mind the battery metre on win xp is usually pretty unreliable, you should probably turn off the auto-hibernate, auto-shutdown at 3,5% and time exactly how much juice you get until the system turns off.

its quite likely you can squeeze anywhere from 15-25mins after windows reports a 5% battery life remaining. in which case i would try re-calibrate before replacing a $150 battery.
