I was just at the Sony website looking at their A-series lineup

For fun, I just decided to customize one to the spec i wanted. It was just going fine, clicking up what I needed until I got to the memory department. The default was 256MB, which is totally unacceptable for a laptop of this calibur. So i looked to upgrade it to 1 or 2GBs. I glanced over and just sat in awe for 5 minutes when I saw the prices.

Sony wanted $400 for the 1GB upgrade, and a whopping $900 for the 2GB upgrade.

    umm :budget:

Anyways, I know sony likes to use their own memory, so do their laptops use a different form than SoDIMMs? I know the S-series uses a mini SoDIMM that can be a pain to obtain, but what about their other lineups?

seems outrageous considering 1GB of DDR2 can be had for around $100 now

No, that's just standard RAM they're overcharging for.

No, actuallythe S-series uses standard size DDR2 SODIMM memory. You can buy it far cheaper elsewhere, at places like newegg.com (where I got mine).

Yeah, always get the bare minimum and install the amount you want yourself. You'll save yourself alot of money that way.
