Received Vaio z590 8/29/08 that was purchased with 3 year extended warranty direct from sonystyle and was very happy until week of September 7 when the “Tab Key” and the “Cap Lock” detached from the key board when typing. I contacted Sony support who said that I must send computer in for repair and that it would take 7 to 10 days. I have not yet tried to return the unit.

I attemted to contact my Sony Style Sales representative via phone and e-mail and he will not respond.

No do not get a 'replacement' submit a return and get a RMA right away, wait for the refund than place a new order!! Its been stated that replacement units have refurb parts!

why don't you just try snapping it back on? Are the clips that hold the keys broken?

Thank you as mentioned the unit was a Build to order or a Configure To Order (CTO) and was hipped from San Diego. I wonder if I would be better off with a unit that was not built in San Diego? There have been a number of comments on the workmanship on the CTO units.

Do you still have this Z with the broken keys? If you do, could you upload larger photos? I'd like to see the details as to how they're connected to the board. I might need to pull up some of my keys due to some squeaks and other problems.
