I just got my new Z, burned the recovery disk, did a clean install of retail W7, and now wanted to go back to original factory setting. So I popped my recovery disk back in, selected "Restore Complete System", went through all the default options. Then I got "An error occurred while executing an application." at 17% into recovery, and the recovery stopped.

Did I screwed up on the recovery disk? My recovery disk is 7.90GB.

Do you still have the hidden recovery partition?
There are reports of recovery discs NOT working across all VAIO models, and hopefully you have that recovery partition still which you can boot off and use to factory restore your machine.

...If you don't, then either you can buy the recovery discs off Sony (US$50) or continue using a clean install of windows..

Most people after realising the recovery discs do not work decided to make two pairs just in case. And I always kept my hidden partition alive since there ain't many (if at all) viruses and hackers that can detect hidden partitions in the first place. I mean, I get back 10GB worth of space without it but it ain't too big a deal.

I deleted the recovery partition thinking that the recovery disk would do the job. Right now the computer is running fine without the need of the original, and I really don't want to spend 50% on something that doesn't really do anything. Can someone with a working partition kind enough to upload it so I can have a copy? I really appreciated.

Whom do you think is going to upload the whole recovery partition? Spend some money and get it from Sony if you really need one.

If the clean install isn't causing issues, then don't bother buying the recovery discs. I think you can claim a warranty of sorts stating that your recovery discs don't work, provided there are absolutely NO scratches on the discs themselves. That though requires you to take your discs and receipt into a Sony service centre or store you bought it from. I guess it comes down to the salesperson you are dealing with...

Out of curiousity; you wish to get back to the factory state because...?
