    Hello

I have just bought a new Linksys E4200 router. But for some reason I cannot connect on the 5ghz wireless band.

I have checked the driver settings and 5ghz is enabled and also updated the drivers to the latest 13.5.0.6, but no joy. I have other PCs that do connect on the 5ghz band so I assume its my laptop (VPC-Z13V9E/X). I am wondering if the card is faulty, it does connect on 2.4ghz band ok however. But i have noticed that windows says its connected at 144mbps or sometimes even 300mpbs but after doing some tests my maximum throughput is 80mbps.

Anyone have any ideas as to what is going on?

    Thanks

    David

They have it disabled for some reason. Go to device manager for your card - then advanced...and enable all the 5ghz stuff. Mine had the same problem.

    Hi Guys

    Thanks for the prompt response.

Beaups, the 5ghz is definitely enabled.

Miki, that driver update is for the Advanced-N 6230 model I have the Advanced-N 6200 AGN model, I did try to run it anyway but it did not update the driver.

    thanks again.

^It's disabled. Dig through ALL of the properties under advanced in device manager.

Don't think it is, check the screenshot, it clearly says 'Enabled', unless I am being extremely stupid.

Go through all those settings. Fat channel intolerant should be off and "wireless mode" at the bottom needs fixed.

Do you have the VAIO Smart Network application on your Vaio?

    One can select bands there:

    Hello Fellas

Thank you all for your help. It was the Vaio Smart Network application was set to 2.45ghz only as pointed out by Bjorn.

Silly that in the adapter settings it was on but you have to set it in this tool as well, I did not know this.

    Thank you!

    Dave

I have the same problem with my Vaio F13S0E_B.

Same adapter in the Vaio, settings all look correct in device Manager, router definitely set for dual band, Vaio cannot see the 5GHz network. Nor can inSSIDer.

I'm not running Vaio Smart Network and there's nothing else obvious that might disable 5GHz.

    Any ideas?

Fixed it. Changed Wireless Mode in Advanced settings for the adapter from 802.11b/g to 802.11a/b/g

Why would that make a difference? Was it the right choice or should I have gone for one of the other modes?

And why is there no mention of 802.11n?

802.11n has a different independent setting a bit higher up.

Another hint for everyone with 802.11n: Set the Channel Width for both 2.4 and 5.2Ghz to Auto, and not to 20Mhz. With Auto your pc can use 40Mhz channels which effectively double your speeds.
