I confess I did not search through the many pages on the Z owners thread for an answer to this. I did do a general search and found nothing.

Perhaps this is a stupid question but, in the SmartWi Connection Utility I do not see anyd when setting up a new connection, I don't see any option to select "N" for the connection mode. I only see "802.11abg" for example. This is the case even at my house where I have an N signal available. Is the N speed still coming through and the Sony software just doesn't show it? I did not see any driver updates or anything. Thanks for your help.

I noticed that. However, go into the properties in Windows for the card and you'll see that N is there.

Agree. I am just wondering if the SmartWi utility has not caught up with the Wifi chip...Do you think connection is at N speed even when the SmartWi shows only abg?

If you look at the help file for SmartWi, it notes that N should be an option, but it isn't in the software.

It should be connecting at N. The reality is that you don't need SmartWi. Just use Windows and don't worry about it.

The SZ7 supports draft N and there is no separate mention of the "N" in Smart WIFi

Also, are you really going to use that "N" ??
Its not going to accelerate you internet access at home as that's slower than 54MBit/s (that's "G") so N only makes sense if you got a corporate internet connection in excess of 54MBit/s or if you use network HDDs or have your own server.
