I just thought I'd brake the news here.
SonyStyle dropped the price to $1,649 with 2.24 and 2GB ram, so the base model now has 2GB of ram, still 120GB HDD.

consequently now all sellers are adeguating their prices.

good stuff. And I will keep waiting, since now if it starts selling more, there are more chances of used one on the market. It is unclear if they are trying to get rid of the old stock since the upgrade will probably be soon.

This $150 down on vaio Z is according to Sony not a price drop its a limited time offfer and only valid until 12/31/08. They probably will have something different after that though.

It is still $1399 for my Z at PCNation. If it drop on the reseller website, do I get price adjustment?

I havent seen any price drop on newegg (amazon has the 150$ rebate now) maybe soon but I still doubt it that there will be any real price drop before next year.

"If it drop on the reseller website, do I get price adjustment?"
Good question, which you probably should ask PCNation, but if you are still in a time where you could return your purchase (first 30days or so) without restocking fee this might be possible. Also a return and reorder might be a possibilty depending on how large the price drop is (if there is one).

Thanks. I also had cut out the UPC for the rebate, so I cant return it to PCNation. I always had bought my laptop from Dell. This is my first time buying from seller.

When I ordered my Z540EBB at SonyStyle.com on 10/15, I thought with 15% EPP and 10% customer appreciation coupon combined, it's a deal that's hard to beat. Well, two weeks later, on 10/31, they dropped the base price by $150, so I called for a price match and they honored it.

I was thinking this can't be any better, but I just got email reminder they are doing 20% EPP on all $1000+ laptop for today on-line and 25% EPP on SR, Z, & TT in store in the coming weekends (depends on location)!! I don't know whether the in-store price is the same as on-line price, but man either discount will get you close (within $50) to two coupons combined when I bought it!

Anyway, I think you will definitely see some price drop in all retailers for Z and definitely do check with the place you purchase for price match.

P.S. If I could share the coupon, I would, since it's of no use to me anymore -- other than making me regretting not just get a Z570 as it becomes within my budget -- but I can't.

I didn't know Sony had EPP deals. Where can I find details such as list of participating employers?

is there a problem with posting it Skyshade? It doesn't look like a one time use coupon - I just used it on the phone with a sales rep fine.

Well, our company's gateway specifically says you are not to share, but I don't know how much they really crack down on sharing. Our instruction also says you need to first register as an EPP member in sonystyle.com, which I think go through some sort of authentication and requires your company email (I think, can't remember exactly, done that way back when).

I would rather not get myself or the person who use the coupon into trouble, just to be safe :(

I mainly mention this deal because I think there will be some good deals around with Sony itself slashing prices like this. Also, to mention my pretty great price match experience with Sony -- even if you have jumped the gun and bought one, definitely still keep your eyes open for opportunity to price match!

is it not 20% off the subtotal of 1899? he got the basic, which starts at 1899 no discount, then just used the coupon and got 228 off

So he got 20% off of the price dropped amount of $2200, or $1760+tax. (I'm not sure what that subtotal is referring too -- I believe the EPP default pricing)

No, he got a Z590 CTO with minimum option and the base is $1899. I think the coupon is only 12% off (so I guess anybody can use it), you need to have the basic 10% EPP (log in as EPP member) on top of it to make it 20.8% (0.9*0.88=0.792) off -- this is how it works in my shopping cart.

Nah, you didn't pay extra. :)

You had the same results as Skyshade and me. This is what I get:

    Z590 CTO $1504.79
    Z540 CTO $1306.79
    Z540EBB $1465.19

My EPP and the promotional discount both applied. I bought my TZ the same way last month.

That's a really compelling price, especially considering that I was looking at $2,049 + extra options + tax a couple weeks ago.

I believe they are specific for the organization you're affiliated with, so I do not think you'll have much luck grabbing a code. You may have luck going the educational discount route however as others have noted they faced little resistance this way via the phone.

man, I wanted to purchase a Z but i purchased a BZ instead.
Failure to completely read the description before clicking the buy button > me.

Anyways, this $150 drop might be tempting for me to sale the BZ so i can get a 13" instead.

i don't understand how you got the 1306 price...i have the EPP, and the site claims that the discount will be 10% from any company. The best i can get is like 1460 or something?? Lemme know what i'm doing wrong.

I really, really, realllllly want a new Z! But the talk of backlit keyboards and possibly smaller chassis really makes me want to wait till at least christmas time. I don't have my notebook sold as of now, which is the money that will be used to buy a new one, so i might as well just wait it out...but i like to see low prices to tempt me to buy now!!

Yea, buying an VAIO is like buying a car.
When a new model comes out, it's expensive and perhaps with some problem or design flaw.
When the mid-cycle-change is around the corner, you get a good deal.
When you see mcc, you definitely want it.
When you get a good deal on mcc model, a redesign is coming soon.

Ah, one more. When you trade it in, you loss money.

Where have rumors of backlit keyboards on the Z come out?

I'm super tempted to buy now, but the lack of a backlit keyboard is incidentally my #1 sticking point on the current Z models. I'm pretty sure I'd roll over and die if they pushed out a Z with backlit keys after I spent upwards of 2K not to get one.

    Waiting is probably prudent. :)
