In case anyone missed it I started a thread here.
Preliminary conclusion: It is unclear whether DDR3 RAM in the current Z brings any improvement in performance over DDR2. It is also uncertain if DDR3 will actually run at a higher frequency than DDR2.
DDR3 may lead to a little increase in battery life.
I guess we'll have to wait for the first reviews.
If you have new information please post in the thread mentioned above.

This is a mystery! Some EU websites say Z ships with DDR2-800 and you can upgrade to DD3-1066:
http://www.notebook.de/sony-vaio-vgn-z11vnb-mit-intel-core2duo-p9500-253ghz-p-14029/
But official Sony.DE and Sony.CO.UK state DDR2-1066 which is kind of impossible. It's either DDR2-800, or DDR3-1066 -
UPDATE:
Sony.co.uk has updated Z series specification, it's DDR3 without any doubts.

And all Z models come with carbon fiber chassis!

Well the German site isn't updated yet but since they have the same model number I bet the German versions are also DDR3...
Not much of a difference though...
At least its not some overclocked DDR2 which may be unstable etc.. -
Yeah it makes sense because DDR2 would not even fit in it.
Well done Miki. -
Well done, I noted they have also corrected the specs for the webcam, which used to say 1MP. and now says correctly 0.3 (the japanese specs). The US still says 1.3MP, but it's probably for extrapolated stills (quite a scam!).
-
Yep German site is now also fully updated xD
Wonder why they took longer than their British colleges... -
So, I guess, Notebook.de will not be able to charge "extra" for 4GB DDR3 memory (300 EUR). They still didn't update their website.
-
SonyStyle USA has amended Z's to DDR3.
-
Wasn't Sonystyle USA always DDR3?
-
Sonystyle USA Yes, but European Sony websites stated DDR2-1066Mhz, which was rather weird. Now, they have finally changed to DDR3, but some european sites selling Z series (like notebook.de) still charge for DDR3 memory, but I guess this will be changed as well.
-
sony changed it, so controversy is gone...
-
I know but the poster before me (lithium) said Sony USA had changed
-
It may indeed have been always DDR3 at SonyStyle USA... Perhaps I was mistaken; others have posted this and other image captures, that there was DDR2, at some point in time, at least on European models:

I could have sworn on the SonyStyle USA launch night I specced out the Zs side-by-side and saw some with DDR2! Sorry for any confusion.
