Hi everyone,
My z1190x has recently went kaput, and Sony wants more to repair it than it originally cost! So I've been working instead on recovering data from the hard drive.
My first search here led me to think the SSD was microSATA. I picked up a microSATA to SATA adapter for around $9 on Amazon, but alas the cable on the Sony Z SSD is slightly wider (maybe a few millimeters) than the microSATA port on the adapter.
Anyone have any helpful experience here, or know what size cable the Z series is using?
Thanks!

if its on a raid0 setup, then i dont think there is any cheap way you can do data recovery

micro sata should work, unless you have the quad raid version which uses a custom FFC.
it is very important that you get a microSATA adapter that will step down the voltage, the 1.8" SSD uses 3.3V
something like this
Newegg.com - StarTech 12" Micro SATA to SATA with SATA Power Adapter Cable Model MCSATAF12S -
o yea my solution above won't help with the raid part
you need to boot the Z with this Hiren's BootCD 14.0 - All in one Bootable CD » www.hiren.info
then see if you can access your data and dump it to a USB HDD or USB stick -
Achusaysblessyou eecs geek ftw :D
the Z11 used samsung drives which were ZIF to mSata i believe

my question is, the OP stated his model as z1190x....that doesnt sound like the vpc-z model to me....is it by chance the older c2d-cpu z model?
-
that is a vpc model
he needs to use the boot cd
doesn't matter what drives he has -

I've recovered data from an unbootable Z1 using Herin's boot CD, I know his Z is broken, I am trying to help him fix it.

ComputerCowboy how would you recover from a z11 ssd when the vaio doesn't boot up at all!? The SSD unit has 128gb one side and 25gb on the opposide side. Just need to connect this to another computer and transfer the contents over.
