Do you know to what extent the different docks of the Z21, Z22, and possibly future generations are compatible; i.e. can I expect to buy a new dock (for example with improved graphics) and connect it via "LightPeak" in the future?

    Z21, Z22 - yes.

Future generations? That is something only sony knows. It's questionable though whether faster lightpeak based graphics would be worth anything, as the limit is not the graphics chip but the lightpeak interface.

well, to some extent, Sony could change internal connections of the PMD, so it would utilize also USB 3 portion of the Light Peak connector, and have only the graphic card attached to PCI-E..

    Z21 and Z22 PMDs are identical/compatible.

Thanks for your replies. I am thinking of buying a Z2X without a PMD for now, but it is good to know that, so far, they have been kept compatible, so I can hope to buy an up-to-date dock if and when I decide I need more graphics power.

^ very, very little chance of that possibility.
The dock has not been upgraded and is unlikely to be; the current connection is saturated.
