    Hey,

It's all regaring problems with Sony Vaio VGN-Z21XN/b.

I went throu all 29 pages on the thread about getting everything working after updating Vaio Z series to Windows 7 ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/342562-windows-7-vaio-z-procedure-29.html ), however I still have problems with getting stuff to work.

    1) I accidentely did the mistake of upgrading video card drivers for nvidia gefcorce BEFORE updating bios + rest of software. The card is now stuck as 'standard VGA graphic card', and there is absolutetly no way I can even install Geforce drivers, not minding speed-staming swtich.

When I try to install it, it says that some hardware may be in use and need's a reboot before windows can install geforce drivers. Rebooting doesnt help, neither does switching into stamina or speed mode. ANy clue? I've tried with both drivers from Vaio page, vaio update, and unistalling and reinstalling it. That leads us to point #2.

    2) Is windows 7 reinstall only option? How do I proceed, as I obviously deleted Vista recovery partition by mistake, and dont even know how to format disc c:, as putting in W7 Vaio update disc only allows me to install another copy of W7 while being in Windows. It doesnt boot pre-system, and I cant really enter biose. F10 key doesnt work as well.

    3) Is it possible to download recovery disc image for Vista anywhere, or my only option is to call Sony and order it from them?

I would greatly appreciate any help.
    Sebastian

    1. just install the correct bios will do.

u can try to uninstall the old driver, then set it to speed switch and reinstall

    2. not needed... i did that once before

    3. if you can do that, tell me too... been trying to search for a copy for a long time as well... but as far as i know, its not likely

#1+2 Thats the problem, that it gives the error I described in original post, and doesnt let me install drivers at all.

Ok, after format and a lot of going around I manage to get the Nvidia card working, however the switch is not going on-air and needs a reboot each time I want to change the card.

S1, S2 buttons and Eject are not working as well.

Does anyone know which of the Vaio Utilities are responsible for this? Before I did format, I had S1/S2 working and they were configurable in Vaio Control Center, now they are gone.

    Help appreciated.

could have saved yourself a reinstallation
the reason for that is coz u forgot to install some critical files

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/427883-vaio-z-windows-7-bios-driver.html#post5435779

Sony Firmware Extension Parser Device driver
Sony Programmable IO Control Device driver

    10a Sony Shared Library
    10b Setting Utility Series
    10c VAIO Event Service
    10d VAIO Control Center
    10e VAIO Power Management

install the power management as well... it helps you to save power by giving you the option to shut down stuff like

    - dvd drive
    - modem
    - ethernet / expresscard slot
    - sd / ms card slot
