So ive got the Z590 and ive been trying some games, i played cs (lagged a little with smoke, maybe due do vsync as i cant find the option to disable it on the control panel)

i played TF2 now, the game runs ok, it lags a lot if you have, say, more than 7 people on the screen shooting at you.. around 40fps.. down to 15 if it lags

im not sure if this is good or not, as TF2 doesnt look very demanding.. but then again, the game was at 1600x900 with medium settings, plus im running a bittorrent client in the background..

well.. im gonna try it again with lower settings later, maybe ill try to lower the resolution...

but yeah, i kind of expected more :(

Lowering the resolution will give you a nice boost in performance, try 1366x768 if that's possible and it wouldn't look that much worse.

yeah, i just tried that, and put everything to lower settings and there wasnt any considerable gain in performance, the graphics looked uglier, but it ran a little smoother...

    it is more "playable" now

jusst reporting again.. i set the 3d setting to "performance mode" in the nvidia control panel, and i closed my bittorrent client (uTorrent) and the game ran a lot smoother.. the graphics were not a lot worse and it was a lot more playable.. averaging 30 fps...

i hope they release a new driver which could improve graphic performance

You can find drivers on laptopvideo2go.com that will work with the 9300M.

I average 85.2 FPS on the CS:S stress test @ 1366x768 will all options maxed but AA / AF (off).

I know this may sound stupid, but you are in Speed mode right? Your scores seem about on par with the X4500 is why I ask. Keep in mind, however, that the 9300 is in no way, shape, or form a gaming GPU... it is the bottom of the barrel for Nvidia's current dedicated card lineup with the advantage of lower power and heat requirements versus any other card. Running most any DX9+ games at 1600x900 will lag on this GPU.

    Which specific driver works?

I tried a couple and they all crashed my system.

Make sure you are cleanly removing all old drivers before installing. I have 177.92 working just fine, and will try 177.98 tomorrow probably. That said, its sometimes you'll need to change the INF files to enable Powermizer on the mobile card.

So can I assume that the 9300M is better than the ATI 3470 in the SR? Cos in a separate thread, CSS is running at 80fps on 1280x800 on the 3470.

And here we have higher fps, bigger resolution and almost similar settings in CSS.

Or maybe the DDR3 ram and probably faster processor is the reason behind this?

Can you run 800x450 on any games? That would be very nice on the 13.1" screen as there wouldn't be any pixel interpolation and the load on the graphics card would be 1/4 of native resolution.

Background processes kill performance. I don't know if you have done a clean install but that's a good way to increase performance.

I do not believe so. I would assume the opposite.

I do not think so. I think the difference in benchmarks results is caused by different settings or different ways of measuring the results.

I would also use lower resolutions and no AA with a card like 9300, low-end cards do work with games, but rarely with these options. There are lower 16:9 resolutions so you dont have to get black borders, should still look pretty good on such a small screen

Anyone knows how the 9300M is performance-wise in comparison to the 7600 Go?

(Thats what I have currently in my AR model, but the Z inerests me because of it's extreme lightness and portablity :) )

yes, i was on speed mode, and i killed all the background apps but msn messenger and skype.

i had it and 1280 x 768 (16:10?) and everything on low settings.

just wondering, will updating my driver mess up with my Fn keys? i remember last time i tried updating my drivers on my VAIO FE i couldnt use my Fn keys for some reason

and i ordered my laptop with freshstart.

It's a step down performance wise from the 7600 although there would be some games where you would see little difference. If you're not a hardcore gamer then the performance difference mightn't bother you that much.

You need to download the modded inf with the driver, copy it into the driver folder and overwrite the old one.

Yeah thats what i did, but kept throwing me an error. Finaly got it to work tho downloaded the official vaio driver, so im on the standard driver version.

so if i did dare update the driver again, what should i do?

uninstall current nvidia driver using the uninstall programs tab -> reboot -> make sure it boots in preformance mode -> install latest nvidia driver from laptopvideo2go site?

Also i have spore installed, and C&C Red Alert 3 Beta, Civiliazation 4: beyond the sword, Medieval 2 Total War, 3DMark06, so i can tell you how well they play, and at what settings, as soon as i calm down! :p

Probably not. Oblivion is a pretty graphically demanding game. That said, even on integrated GMA950 (lowest end integrated graphics card), I can play the game using Oldblivion. Everything just looks like crap. :p

That doesn't mean the FN-Keys aren't working, that simply means the driver doesn't support the standard HAL codes for brightness changing.

It ran on my friends vaio (dont remember the model, but a 13.3" screen) with a 7400 Go, sure he put the resolution detail down but he got very good fps.

    Should run fine with a 9300 :)

Am at work now so cant get a precise number but with default drivers, and the standard install (but with all of the crap pograms/processes that run when you boot removed) i got just over 2200 on 3d mark 06.

I can run spore on med/high on medium/low resolution, and low with medium creature details on 1600x900.

What's the performance difference between the X4500 and the 9300M? Also, where does ATI's 3470 mobile fall compared to these options?

    EDIT:
Never mind... found my answer on the gaming forum. :D

    3470 > 9300M >>>>>>>> X4500 or something to that extent.

Anyone else having problems with the game crashing? I've been playing COD2 MP and the game is having two problems

    1: The game just crashes
2: The screen starts showing weird lettering across it with almost a prism effect from the top right corner

That depends on the user's perception. I personally find the rescaled display to be horrible, due to both smudging and interpolation artifacts, and simply can't play in a non-native resolution (or a power-of-two division of the native resolution) on an LCD display. Others don't notice this much, and are happy with it.

I guess it is much like some people don't notice the interlace artifacts (striping) when you play a DVD on a progressive display, or don't mind the colour fringing on text when using ClearType on a CRT.

Unfortunately, this means I don't get a lot of gaming enjoyment out of my Z590. The graphics card simply can't cope well with modern 3D games in 1600x900, and older games generally won't even allow this resolution.

Please try Burnout Paradise Ultimate Box PC (Newest Game, perfect Coded)
I play this game, with a very nice graphic (1600x900, no AA, no AF, low shadow, Maximal Particels Quality, high after rendering, maximum details)

I run this games without any lags, it runs really smooth and the graphic is really really nice!

Counterstrike 1.6 runs 1600x900 at maximum quality, very smooth!

Halo, 1600x900, at all maximum, runs very smooth!

World of Warcraft runs on 1600x900, middle graphic quality, smooth!

Warcraft 3, 1600x900, all high, very smooth!
    --------------------------------------------------

    On otherside,
Race Driver GRID, at lowest details, all lowest, 720x478 resolution, and i get in this game not more as 10Frames....
S*h*i*t*test Coded Game i played ever!

Need For Speed Most Wanted, 1600x900, details low, no shadows, runs at 25Frames... Its Okay!

Prince of Persia (newest), 1280x800, details low, 15-20 Frames!

Crysis, 1280x800, all low, no shadow, very bad graphic... 15-20Frames!
    ---------------------------------

There runs likely all games very slow.... But i must say, 90% of all games are very bad coded!

What me makes very curious, is, that Burnout Paradise Ultimate PC, runs very fast and smooth (40frames) with a really, very very nice graphic!
Best ever i seen! Try this game on the Z, and you will see what i mean...
    It's very good coded!

But some other newer Games you can play on small resolution, and lowest graphic... but it works....

So the Z is not the Game thing!

Please read this thread, there are newer Graphic Drivers for VistaX32 and VistaX64...

Before i used this modified drivers, my intel X4500 were faster as the 9300 in all games, after i installed this driver, My 9300 were much much faster as before, and i can play games in much higher resolution and quality, with no lags....
So with this drivers the 9300 is now faster as the x4500!

    Try out!

    Cheers!

CIV4 is RAM bound more than anything. Especially as the game progresses, and there's a lot of different objects to handle.

CIV4 BTS plays reasonably well in 1600x900 on a Z-590 with 3 GB RAM. The exception being when a new wonder is built, and a sweeping zoom in on the city occurs. That turns into a slide show.

What turns me off with CIV4 BTS is the young guy that reads the new famous quotes which were added after the original CIV4. He's not Leonard Nimoy, and the contrast is jarring. Can't blame Sony for that, though.
