I remember someone reporting this similar problem quite some weeks ago, but just cannot manage to find that post or thread!

Anyway, I'm having the same problem now. There's a 320GB Harddrive in my Z, but when I go to 'My Computer' (and go to properties of the C: station), it states the drive only has 250GB capacity?

How's this possible? How can I have Vista report the capacity correctly? Maybe anyone does have a link to the post/thread of the person which encountered this problem some time ago?

Ok guys, my problem changed a bit.

Using "Storage and Drive Mngmt" of Windows Vista I'll probably be able to let Vista show to correct capacity. However, now this:

I thus ordered from Portably 1, a Sony Vaio Z590, with the following upgrade (amongst others); a Hitachi 5K320.

Received my Sony Vaio Z; what's in it; a Hitachi 7K320... What should I do? Keep it or have the correct drive swapped in? Money never was a real issue for me, so I previously chose the 5K320 over the 7K320 because it presumably was more silent and used less battery life. However, now I don't know if I want to go through the hassle of sending my Z back, to get a cheaper drive swapped in there! (I just got billed for the 5K320)

Sorry man, but I am afraid that they mess up again. You think that you have the model with the 320 Gb hard drive but they put the 250 gb one.

Battery life will not make a big difference.

    How is the sound?
    How cool is it?

You can use HD Tune to see the temperature.

I would propably keep it. It's a lucky break.

I'm not having my notebook here right now, but will update you tonight.

I recall from yesterday evening that I could feel the vibrance of the drive a little bit, did hear the drive a little bit as well, but that the main 'noise issue' definitely was the fan. When the Z is working hard the fan noise is a bit too loud IMO. Does the 7k320 let the fan run considerably more louder than the 5k320 would? Maybe someone with a 5k320 could comment on that?

I really have no idea how the 5k320 would perform. ****, this situation sucks. I'm afraid that if I would go through the hassle of having the 5k320 swapped for the 7k320, it will probably turn out anyway that there's barely any improvement concerning noise/heat/battery life etc, but that the Z is way slower than now...

Report the drive temperatures here, so you can compare with others.

My Z is fairly quiet but I hardly use CPU intensive programs and I run a clean install of XP.

    (@ Phil)

I finally ran HDtune; see attachment

HDtune reported a top of 40 degrees, it's now (about 5 minutes after running the program) back to 38.

    1. Is this good or bad?
    2. Does it make a difference that I've been doing some defragmenting etc. during the hours before running HD tune? ( edit: + I think I had McAfee on, and mu-torrent actively running)
    3. I'll be upgrading my RAM from 2GB to 4GB DDR3 in the near future; will that make any difference?

    1. 40 is very good! 60 is 'problem' zone.

    2. yes makes a lot of difference. close as many processes and do not do anything else. the performance is too low now.

    3. not for your hard drive performance. if you run Vista it will work a bit faster. XP does not really benefit from over 2GB unless you do heavy photo editing.
