This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Z1 recovery discs - share between multiple units?

    I have a friend who owns the exact same unit that I happen to have (Vaio Z1). He recently had a hd failure and never made any backup cds. I was wondering if he would be able to use my recovery discs, even though he obviously uses a different WinXP serial number than I do. I've never had to go through the restore process (knock on wood), so I'm not sure if it prompts you for a valid microsoft serial or simply uses the one that was present when the recovery cds were made.
