Hello.
I'm thinking about getting a Vaio Z1 series notebook, but I want to make sure of a couple of things:
1) Is it quiet...basically silent? Or does the fan quick in when doing a lot of processing or hard drive activity?
2) How is the screen resolution? Does it bug you that things often look small?
Thanks,
Avi

1. it's pretty quiet, depending on what the power settings you leave it at. You do hear some hard drive noises once in a while, as it looks for things.
2. the screen is nice, the resolution was wierd at first, but i realized even though thing look smaller, i get to view more
I would aim for the new S series notebooks, instead of the z1 unless you get a really good deal, because the z1's vid card is only 16mb (>_>) and the S has xbrite, some love it some don't. -
Thanks for the reply.
The S series looks great. But I checked it out at a CompUSA and the fan was whirring audibly. I was disappointed. And I read a long review where fan noise was a complaint.
Also, I was less than thrilled with the small and recessed track buttons.

Well just to let you know, Sony discontinued production of the Z1 notebook. I had already configured one and ordered it and they wouldn't ship it to me. They told me to go to the S series, which I did and it was a good choice. I have an S170 and I love it. I don't notice fan noise at all.
