    Hi ya

my 18 month Z11 is developing vertical lines on the screen, 3 days ago there was a one pixel wide white line, now there are two more thicker black ones.

I am guessing that it is related to the loose hinge (the right one being the more loose).

Is it the cable running to the screen and is it totally effed or will I be able to remove any kinks if I remove the hinges?

If it is effed- has anyone convinced sony to send them a free replacement. IMO it is a design flaw and not reasonable wear and tear.

    Thanks in advance.

If it`s still in warranty get it repaired give Sony a ring see what they say, if not get a price for repair, if to high live with it or buy a replacement.

You should have 2 years warranty if you bought it in the UK.

Do Sony advertise a 2 year warranty, I know if your county is a member of the European Union, it`s supposed to be 2 Years Warranty, But I have contacted trading standards in the past and they say UK Warranty is only 1 Year :(

I recommend you contact Sony first (without mentioning the hinge). I bought a VPC-Z1 in the UK and it definitely came with a 2 year warranty. What I understood was that they offered 2 years on all their "business" laptops.

For the VGN-Z series only? It isn't the "LT131EE12000" model panel?

Aren't both VGN-Z and VPC-Z 13.1" LCDs? Does anyone know if they are interchangeable?

Thanks for the model numbers, looks like the HD will cost about £300.

Is the screen damaged or just the lead, ie., do you think that I could just fix the lead?

Can you link me to the 2 year warranty?
While my Z11 is more than 2 years old, I have double Credit Card warranty.
    Thanks.

    Hi there,

The standard Sony Vaio European warranty is now 2 years. Which country are you in? In fact most EU states mandate that the cover is 2 years, hence apple are in a semi-perpetual state for shafting their customers in Italy and trying to hodwink them into pay for applecare

In theory, we in the UK have up to 7 years cover but the burden of proof is on the customer.

BTW what is wrong with your Z11?

I'm in Canada. Still 1 year.
I don't have a serious problem but I have a few pixels that I can see through (are lighter coloured). I actually had my display replaced inside the first year for a pixel cluster.
It's not a big deal but if I had warranty I would.
