This one is strange, out of the blue earlier this week I plugged in my 16gb Mushkin Mulholland and nothing happen. Freaking out, I took it out and plugged it into my desktop and it's recognized right away.

I put it back into my Z and just sit and wait. It eventually appears as a usuable drive, timed it at 55 seconds before reading as a drive.

Fearing something was wrong with my usb ports, i try other devices. Mice, keyboards, external usb hdd, Zune HD and everything works and is recognized right away.

I find a random cheapo 2gb flash drive, plug it in, and it's read and useable instantly, it's only the 16gb mushkin giving me problems even though my desktop reads it perfectly fine.

Chalking it up to one of those unexaplainable, more trouble than it's worth computer scenarios, I use this excuse to buy myself a 32gb Patriot Rage drive, figuring there was something just fishy with the Mushkin.

Well, it takes just as long to recognize the drive after plugging it in :\ :\ after a minute, it shows up and I can transfer data to it and off just fine, but why the delay? Used the Mulholland drive for months without a problem.... the 2gb drive works right away, so capacity is an issue, but why?

there have been no driver updates or software changes between the drive working fine and the 1 minute delay, already ruled that out.

Seems to be a small isue there. Have this with my External HDD (40gigs) aswell. I think it has something to do with the formatting or something.

well.... glad i know i'm not the only one, it's still driving me crazy though. i've gone fat32/ntfs w/various allocation sizes...... still the same.

when i plug the usb flash drive in, i hear the audible sound associated with connecting a flash drive from windows but then nothing for 1 minute until the drive finally appears :(

yeah, drives are fine. same thing is happening on my 3 month old mushkin and my 1 day old patriot rage. they show up on my desktop right away and perform fine, it's just on the Z where they're taking a minute to show up on my computer.

Ah forget my complaint i seem to have fixed it. Did a slow format on my external harddisk (ntfs, standard allocaation size) and it works great now ^_^

Use another USB port The right port on my Z11 refuses to recognize my 16GB drive. It works fine for everything else. The two ports on the left have no problems with the 16GB drive.

Could it be that the one on the right can provide more juice. Maybe the ones on the left. I've had notebooks where certain USB are faster and have more juice. Many external USB drives come with an extra power cable to provide extra juice, try that,

figured it out in case it happens to anyone else...... I was using the beta to Acronis True Image 2011, had a hunch, uninstalled and now my flash drive works as it should. Shows up as soon as I plug it in. :\
