After I put the laptop in hybernate (my powerbutton on the side is set to put laptop to hybernate) after a while when I come back to it, it is always awake with the lid shut.

This happens everytime. I can never catch it when it wakes up on its own but it happens after a while like when i put it to hybernate overnight. it also seems to only happen when the laptop is plugged in to the ac adapter.

I have my vaio z to resume from hybernate/sleep when the lid is opened. and this works as expected.

Anyone else face this? I have the factory win7 pro 64-bit installed.

Certain hardware can waken a hibernated laptop. Not sure, but I think the only way to check is to go through the device manager (Control Panel) and check the Power Management properties of each piece of hardware.

You should be able to dig through the power management logs to find out what process is waking it. Have you setup windows media center? It's notorious for waking up machines to perform updates/maintenance. If you have defrag (hopefully not with ssd) or any other process scheduled for certain time of day it will also invoke a wakeup.

Part of the system event log. To quote Microsoft:

To find out what caused your computer to wake from sleep, do the following:

    1. Open Event Viewer by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, clicking Administrative Tools, and then double-clicking Event Viewer. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    2. Expand Windows Logs, and then click System.
    3. In the Actions pane, click Filter Current Log.
    4. In the Filter Current Log dialog box, in the Logged list, select the time range.
    5. In the Event sources list, select Power-Troubleshooter, and then click OK.
    6. In Event Viewer, in the System pane, select the date and time for the event that you want to view.
    7. On the General tab, view the Wake Source for the event.

I had a similar sounding problem - the PC would wake up in the night. It was the windows auto update running at 3am.

I fixed mine by changing the power management settings. If you look at the advanced power management settings, there is an option called something like "awake on timer" (both for plugged in and on battery). If it's set to "Enable" (which mine was), you need to set it to disable. You'll need to change that for every power management setting you use (performance, balanced, silent, etc.).

That way, it shouldn't turn on when a scheduled event starts.
