Z117 in Singapore Airport

Guys,
I want to buy a New Sony Vaio 116 but the Airport at Singapore only has the Z117 at S$4204 (3068 US$) is that price OK??
They also told me that it is impossible to get the Z116 in Singapore as all the shops are out of stock (yes maybe a sales pitch) anyway, I have read so good stuff about the 117 but not sure about the price

Interesting, here in Australia the Z117 is out of stock but heaps of Z116 available.

I think the price is reasonable. Just make sure the spec is the one you are looking for.

 

Hmm.. the maxed out version in the US costs around $4500.

I googled the sony shop at the aiport and got there number.......I called him and he says he only has two left and that the best he could do was 4204 sing, and also said he would give me a carry case as well

 

Well AFAIK just one spec (VPCZ117GG). What I am trying to say is just make sure it's not a Z116 being sold as Z117.

 

Too be honist I really dont need all that power but I also dont want to buy something and wish I had spent the extra...............is there a lot of differance between the 116 and 117??

 

i5 vs i7
6GB RAM vs 8GB RAM
1600x900 vs 1920x1080
128GB SSD vs 256GB SSD

If you really don't need the power the 116 might be a better choice.

 

there's alot of difference.. the 116 is a i5, 128gb ssd, 6gb ram, 1600x900 screen.

the 117 is a i7, 8gb ram, full hd screen, 256gb ssd.

in mainland singapore, the 116 sells for 3.6k and the 117 sells for 4.5k..

exactly where in the airport my i ask?

 

Terminal 3 at the Sony Style shop.................I will think about this a little more and maybe go for the 117
I will also be in Dubai airport for 4 hours so will look there as well

I say go for the Z117GG.

I doubt you will have any regret...whereas with the Z116 you might regret not getting the Z117.

 

Can you ask if they will have any new shipments Sigh. While i'm not flying there just to get it, it's crazy that I am flying to three countries on this trip and still might not be able to buy the model i want...

i'd be even willing to pay for it now and get it then.

That's actually no difference. With SSD in both you will be hard pressed to identify real life difference in that "i7" and "i5", unless you are maybe transcoding video every day and finishing the job in 6 minutes instead of 65 is a huge deal to you.

As for the screen the 1600x900 is laready way overkill at 13" screen size. If you get the 1920x1080 the video isnt going to look any different at 13" size and if you in web or spreaksheets, you're going to have to scale up the 1920 towards the 1600x900 font size anyway.

So just save your money and get the 116. Or take the savings and buy some other toy.

I would but as they said before you cannot get the 116 anywhere, and it is only a few hundred bucks cheaper "Right"???

I have a Z116 and it came with 256. I think the Z114 is 128, at least from Amazon.

It's a Z116GX/S if that matters.

 

I think the Z116GG has 128GB SSD. Asian config is a bit different.

I talked with 2 shops in the Funan center and they both have the Z116 and Z117 for the same pric as the airport so no problem

hotdamn, $3000 for a sony? I'd buy myself a nice sager or alienware for that kind of money ...

I just come off the phone with my 3 contacts in Singapore and all of them are now saying they have NO stock of the Z-117. I sure hope that changes before I arrive there on Wednesday............. I am traveling through Dubai Airport , maybe they will have one there????

 

I am sure you already know but I bought the new Z116 six weeks ago and love it except for the fact that the hard drive is small.

Anyway I have just come off the phone with the same shop that i bought my Z116 in Singapore and they say they will have the new Z128 and 129 next week so I have asked them to keep them for me and I will make my mind up in the next 10 days which one i want.
They say the only difference is the Blue-Ray drive in the 129 and that is an extra US$500 bucks.....................is it worth it???

what do you mean, you would be nuts to pay $500 more for just a blu-ray drive ... if you really want one, you can always buy a blu-ray drive on ebay for $150 and put it in yourself, thats why i said that

 

On the F12 series, you can get the Blu-ray upgrade for like $100 or something.

 

You could just have catch a MRT from airport to Sim Lim Square or Funan Center and get you one. Did you get a good price at the airport?
