hi people...I really need your help.
I have sony vaio Z11VRN, windows 7 ultimate installed...with all the official sony drivers... everything is working just great...until I wanted to connect my laptop to my new philips tv via HDMI.. (before I was doing that all the time with Toshiba TV with no issues at all!)... so no I have no sound.

To cut the long story short....it is not an issue with sound card (playback devices selected HDMI one...and the equalizer actually moves...), the TV has no issues since it works perfectly with dvd using the same cable.

I found out that it has to do with nvidia drivers. Only once I managed to update to a newer version and then the problem was solved at the same time. But when I restarted later on the laptop...I had issues with chipset graphic card (yellow sign in device manager). I tried all kind of drivers...official, modified .inf... different versions....NOTHING!! Some won't even install...other install but at the same time the computer switches to stamina mode (at least the light is turned on on stamina without moving physically the switch there) and moreover the intel chipset has a yellow sign in device manager....

PLEASE HELP me with that...cause I mostly watch tv using my laptop....

    Looking forward for you replies!

do you have sony drivers??????? If yes...where can I get them?? I have 186.84 (sony drivers)....
Mine was working with other tv (toshiba)...now I got a new philips...which created the issue... (I thinkg the tv is really new...that is why the drivers create an issue..)

Mate. There is a huge thread regarding HDMI sound issues on the older Z. You need to download and use the drivers released by Realtek themselves; Sony's one seldom works (by that I mean it works for some people, but not for others). Kinda surprised myself considering my driver library is the exact same as the 5th gen Zs (I own a clean installed 2nd gen Z, with W7 Pro x64), and the 5th gen Zs with a factory installed W7 has the same problems... Well, I only confirmed this on a Korean 5th gen Z, but it tells me that Sony messed up driver support considering their original drivers do NOT work for the majority. As for me? I don't own a HDMI cable despite owning a full hd TV; probably go and buy myself those $7 ones from a store this weekend...

And incase you've been living in a cave for the past few months... Sony released a new Z series machine with a nVidia 330m with 1GB dedicated solely to the GPU. The new Z therefore uses different drivers since it has different hardware. Well, that plus its GPU switch is now a 3-way switch vs the 2-way on the older ones.

It really has to do with the nvidia drivers!!

It IS the graphics card drivers on the "old" Z. I posted about this a while back. NVIDIA's 18x.xx drivers disable audio over HDMI. Try installing the Vista drivers (174.xx I think) and you'll see that you have sound thru HDMI. Too bad you loose the brightness setting on Speed mode that way.
I tried every Realtek driver and BIOS out there to no avail. Until Sony releases a newer hybrid graphics card driver (which is extremely unlikely), we'll have to live with it.
