    Hi

I originally ordered my CTO Z11 on the 15th March with i540m, 4gb, 256gb SSD and 1980 x 1080 screen. I decided to cancel it as I wanted a i7 620m and 2 x 4gb RAM sticks from an independant vendor was a lot more expensive than ordering through Sony.

So I re-ordered on 22nd March i7 620m, 8gb RAM, 256gb SSD with hi res screen. I then cancelled again as I realised getting the pre-built Z11z9eb was about £100 cheaper and you get the headphones, WWlan, quad SSD and fingerprint and the only difference was 6gb RAM instead of 8gb. I realise it wont be dual channel but I read that the performance difference is minor 5-20% and I can live with that.

Thinking I could order one yesterday from a retailer who told me they were getting them in stock on the 31st March it turns out that they were fibbing and they cannot get hold of any. I been to every online retailer and they are all sold out of Z11Z9eb. So to all those in UK who have got their Z11Z9eb where did you buy yours from and do they have it in stock??

I called Sonystyle UK and they said they dont know when they will be getting it back in and it probably be end April the earliest - gulp! I want mine now!!!!

    Please help

hey kit9t9, I'm living in newcastle. I got this problem too but unfortunately they dont have this model in the UK. Even sonystyle doesnt know when this stock will release so the sales person told me better off ordering cuztomize Z series which is faster than waiting for the stock.

The problem is I dont know if it's quad SSD if we cuztomize online. seems the configuration says (Duo)2x 128 = 256. I'm not sure about this while i browse other forum some say uk version provide quad???

If any body know please enlighten us.

Oh yea i order my Z series few days back :) waiting now.

    Thanks Bryan

Im originally from Newcastle but now live in Sheffield : )

Thats basically what the Sonystyle customer service guy said to me and advised me to buy a CTO model. The CTO model I ordered (now cancelled) was i7 620m, 8gb RAM, 256gb SSD (dual) came to £2269 (with 5% discount). The Z11Z9eb model sells for average £2200 and is almost exactly the same apart from you get 6gb RAM, WWLAN, fingerprint scanner and Quad SSD. So I think is much better offer

The CTO model with 256gb is dual RAID if what the call centre guy told me was true.

    Good luck on finding one.

oh hey, we're neighbour state. haha I order mine i7 620 8gbram 256 SSD WWAN, finger print, larger battery capacity. it cost me £2569.

But i dont know weather there is a huge different in quad and Duo SSD.

I've heard that getting 4gb x2 ram is better rather than 2gb + 4gb ram? dont know its true or not?

between did you cancel in between production?do they allow you?

I thought having 2 x 2gb or 2 x 4gb (dual channel) would be better than 2gb+4gb but after reading a few web articles the difference is only 5-20%.

I cancelled each time without any hassle although I did not receive a getting built email either time.

    cheers

I'm afraid it seems that the Z11Z9EB hasn't landed on these shores yet. There are a few Z11X9EB around though (Got mine coming from Amazon tomorrow :D)

And as far as I'm aware, in Europe, The SSDs are 128GB physical drives (double-sided: 2x64GB). So 256GB is in fact two physical drives, each double-sided thus giving 4x64GB. The exception is the 512GB, which is two 256GB double-sided drives giving 4x128GB, which is why they are so effing expensive, lol...

Great news I managed to find a Vaio Z119Zeb in Sony Centre York. I was in York for a day out with the wife and I thought I pop into the Sony centre to ask about the Z11 on the of chance they have a delivery date. Lord and behold they got delivery of one yesterday. They wanted £2450 for it be a bartered down to £2250.

I have now put a deposit for it and as soon as I get a refund from Sonystyle I will pay the balance.

All those still waiting check your local Sony centre as they might have just delivery - good luck!

so how much did you urchase for the total price £2250? because in sonystyle is £2450.

Ponx, so you mean in Uk version 256 is 64GB x 4? it is going to be quad right? just to make sure. another question for this z series vaio SSD support TRIM?

    Hi Bryan,

Total purchase was £2250, they wanted £2450 at first but I told them most online retailers were selling them for £2200 so they agreed to reduce the price.

Also about Trim I read in one of the pot that Intel has released a driver that allows Trim in RAID.

    Hi

I put a deposit on the prebuilt model at Sony centre shop in York. It's ready for me to pick up as soon as I pay the balance which I will as soon as I get my refund from Sonystyle UK.

The model is Z11Z9eb and it's i7 620m, 6gb RAM, 256gb quad SSD, WWLAN, fingerprint and full HD screen (see website for full spec). Like you ordered a CTO model and then cancelled it because the pre-built model was much better value. I am quite lucky to find the pre-built model as it's soldl out online and the York Sony centre just got delivery of it (it was still in their stock room when I went into the shop).

I am expecting to pick it up
sometime next week as soon the funds clear back into my account.

    Cheers

Wow, you got it cheap. Mine i ordered with your order differences is only 8gb and large battery capacity. you got it £22XX and i got mine £2569. That a huge difference. So do you still know how much stock they have for this model in Sony York? Did they tell you they order in how many??

I noticed a similar thing between Sony and retailers in Portugal:
Sony(Style).pt has the Z11Z9E/B up for €2500 (now unavailable as well) but the retailer I ordered from has it listed for €2300  :D

York only had 1 x Z11Z9eb (which I got) and 3 x Z11X9 (i5 520m, 128 SSD). I would check the Newcastle Sony Centre and see if they got any because the York store literally only got them in the day before and was still in the storeroom. If you want I can check Sheffield and Leeds Sony center for you and see if they got then in.

I will check Sony Leeds and Sheffield for you mate and let you know. It won't be until next week due to bank holiday.

Definately the pre-built Z11Z9 is more value for money. The CTO model you ordered for £2450 is far too expensive and you will have to wait a long time for it

I actually got it £2441. I tried checking on your spec if I match the same spec as you it is going to be £20 cheaper.

The waiting time is too long and also now the i7 620 m configuration is unavailable? So does this effect my cuztomize order! I need to wait till tuesday to call back my rep and ask what's going on. Damm. By the time I got my sony it's already outdated. MBP may be out. :(

anyway, thank to you :) cheeers

Ok I called York Sony Centre today and asked them to send my Z11 to Leeds store so I can pick it on Monday (I am so excited - bordering on sad). I asked them to check where else do they have this model in stock and when they checked their system there is only 2 in stock in the whole country!

Both are in Manchester, one in Sony Centre Trafford Centre and one in Arrandale centre (city centre basically). If you are willing to travel to Manchester you can get your hands on one or ask them to send it to Newcastle.

I might be lucky then because I told the sales guy that I could get it from Amazon for £2,200 and he offered me £2,250 straight away. I think he wont give you the best price because you are not there face to face. Trying calling Manchester or Newcastle and say a friend bought one from you for £2250 and you will buy it straight away of they accept that price.

I have the receipt to prove that its £2250 so push them for it because they will give it (im the proof).

    Good luck

Do the instore models include the noise cancelling headphones?

The other key requirement I have is for the extended life battery - anyone bought one from a store as opposed to CTO? If so, how much was it?

I picked up mine today and now back home with it. I have to say it's is absolutely beautiful. I off out now to watch Clash of the Titans so I don't have time to mess around with it now but you guys waiting for it will not be disappointed.

You don't get the Noise cancelling headphones as I thought but I guess you can't have everything.

Also those of you that are worried that the text is too small on 1080p screen need not worry. The Sony screen is so bright and sharp it doesn't seem to strain my eyes at all. I had a Alienware M15x with 1080p screen and it's no where near as good.

I'm concerned to note that resellers seem to be EOLing this model, or just not bothering to list it if they never got around to selling it first.

I have one each of the X and Z at the moment, as I need three identical machines for how I work (mainly for a guaranteed effective restore from a machine image) and wanted to see which I should get - to see whether the Z merits the extra outlay x 3.

I've decided that the Z is worth it in terms of hanging onto the units for longer, but from an actual what-I-really-need-to-do aspect, I could also be quite happy with the X.

I'd like to get cracking and complete my orders, yet no-one seems to have a lead time any more for the Z. Does anyone know why?

From what the Sonystyle UK rep (take this with a pinch of salt) told me was that Sony is struggling to get hold of the Core i7 620m chips and also there is just massive demand for the Z.

I was very lucky in able to find the a pre-built model in store in Sony Centre York. As I mentioned earlier on this thread Manchester had the only 2 left in UK and it was gone by the time I posted on here and Bryan called them so they are really selling like hot cakes.

Personally I dont think Sony expected the Z to do so well (recession etc..) in this market so they didnt make that many.

Not many notebooks that can sell for this price apart from maybe Apple.

Yeah - on superficial thought that made sense to me at first as that was what one of the resellers was saying to me as well, but I find the backed-up availability of 620's hard to believe, and as for popularity of the Z11 in general - well, I have no problems getting hold of an X-spec today from a reseller if I wanted to.

I'm simply wondering whether I should hang on for the Z to be re-available, or to order the X's now. I'd like to be all-Z, but in terms of work-effectiveness an all-X setup wouldn't actually hurt me. It's all about the lead time...

Kit9t9, so how your new Z going? Satisfy with it? Are you going to clean install you Z series?

Sony Style UK is no longer displaying the message about the i7-620 being unavailable, and it now appears to be a £30 upgrade rather than £110 and it still indicates 2-3 weeks for delivery.

Just placing my order in case this is a temporary unintentional offer...

Ive just looked and this offer is on for a couple of weeks it seems - it sure is a good offer! I ordered mine a few weeks ago and upgraded the i5 - maybe there is a shortage of the upgraded i5? or the 'basic' off the shelf spec is in such a demand that they want to produce as many of those as possible...

FYI - In the UK it seems all CTO models are built in Japan, then sent to the Netherlands and then onto London, then shipped from there. I called Sony Style for an update on my order and they explained this, so im guessing the lead time will always be around 2-3weeks minimum...

Not sure if anyone else can add anymore to this?

    Cheers,

    Dan.

Oh boy - the i7 is unavailable again (perhaps that's why they're willing to offer it for free)

I really wish I had placed my order last night, rather than thinking it might not be sensible to go ahead without informing the wife...

yea it is unavailable. I called sony to confirm this they told me there out of stock again. I doesnt make sense if the offer run till april 20 and no stock available for i7 620. No point of ordering. Funny Marketing!

First I thought that Sony order tonz of i7 620 then make a discount! right now out of stock!!1 :(

Second thing I find out that is when i order mine on 30 march i7 620 is available. today, I called and spoke to 2 different sales rep. one told me to wait because is in build, another one told me to cancel my order because it is not in production. I checked my order status online it says in production! What the HECK!!!! :(

Whats Sony doing? No right answer! Confused!!!

Wow if you can get the i7 as an £30 upgrade it's a bargain but I'm guessing they made a mistake when they updated the website or something because no way will it be sol out in one day.

Regarding my Z I still haven't managed to play on it properly as my wife has been deliberately not letting go on it too long but I really like it so far. It's dam fast and very quiet. I read that people thought the fan was loud but not for me.

Bryan, I don't think I will do a fresh install of W7 as I don't feel there is that many bloatware and I find some of the Sony stuff useful. Will have to see on that.

James, did you just ordered online or through the call centre? If you ordered through the call centre did you get the 5% discount?

I just went to the website to look for myself and when I select the i7 option a message pops up and the option is not available. Have they run out of stock already??

Anyway congrats on getting the offer as it is pretty good but makes me think why they have offered a discount so early.

I ordered online (no 5%) - I also got the unavailable message earlier, but when I went back again around 5pm it was gone so I ordered one?! It'll be interesting what the estimated delivery date is that comes back in the email - I also have an i5 version ordered just in case.....I've never come across such a ridiculous availability situation in 10 years - and I've been buying coporate laptops for a long time...

Am trying to get a hold of a i7-620 here in New Zealand. Have been told by Sony rep that due to i7 shortages if people were to order one now there would be no guarantee that it could be supplied before a replacement model launches. Best guess not before mid year! How can intel be that short of supply? Surely a company that big wouldn't so drastically underestimate demand? Guess it might be back to mac for me after making the decision to switch back to PC after such a long time. :( Not that apple is any better with getting their new line up out the door.

And now the price reduction on the i7 is gone, and the option is still not available. Arrrrgh!

Why can't Sony just communicate sensibly, even their call centre have no real idea of what is going on with stock (in the UK at least)

And if Sony were not a well known company I would never buy from them based on the inconsistency of their website - sometimes accessories can be seen, sometimes not, clicking on accessories from the order confirmation page kicks you out to the Sony Europe page and loses all your choices etc. etc.

    Hi Guys,

I received my UK CTO yesterday and all seems to be working fine, the only thing im looking at changing is the Mobile Broadband which comes with a trial Orange subscription... hoping to change this

But probably more important... I went to PC World yesterday and they had the new Z with the i7 just sitting on display!

I think it was priced circa £2400 - but if people are having no joy then maybe this could help?

If you want anymore info let me know

    Dan.

I notice that the free CPU upgrade expiring 20th April now applies to the i5-540M - I wonder whether the offer was incorrectly added to the i7-620M originally which would explain its sudden disappearing act (and it would make sense to offer the i5-540M for free to 'make up' for the i7's lack of availability).

This should all become clear when I get the estimated delivery date email later this morning - I'm fully expecting it to say that the i7 offer was not only a mistake but that it's also not even available...stay tuned.
