Just wanted to share the amazing color-calibrated screen results for the Z12 with 1920x1080 screen:

Using ColorEyes Display Pro + DTP94B sensor:
With white point target D65 and gamma 2.2:

    Black level: 0.33 cd/m2
    Luminance: 253 cd/m2 (full brightness)
    Contrast (calc'd): 767:1
    Color accuracy: max DE 0.64

    Amazing.

    Nice :D

BTW, there is a calibrated ICC profile for the VAIO Z in digitalversus.com. It's much better than the default one.

I have a 1600x900 display in my vaio Z12. At 76% brightness (two steps down from full) I have 126cd/m2 luminance with a black point of 0.2cd/m2(630:1 contrast). Measured with i1Display2.

Not only is the brightness and contrast awesome, also it cover 100% of sRGB color space and more than 90% of Adobe RGB. Only true/full RGB-LED and IPS displays have a higher color gamut.
According to tests the Sony Vaio's color space coverage is better than the MacBook Pro.

Why do you have only 253cd/m2 brightness? I get at full brightness more than 350cd/m2. Do you have autobrightness on?

Always better to do your own calibration, since each panel and backlight is a little different - but if you don't the equipment, it's better than nothing. If you download the ICC file, make sure you go to the Windows Color applet in control panel, associated it with your monitor, and tell Windows to load the profile into the LUT with each reboot.

I have both the i1Display2 and the DTP94. The DTP94 gives me better results when I used ColorEyes software to calibrate. 0.2 is a really good black level on your 900p display, though!

I think the FHD 1920x1080 screen might not be as bright. Either that or after calibration to D65 white, the maximum luminance is reduced.

When you look at the color space coverage. Do you also have a little spike in the purple/blue area?

At full brightness I get 351cd/m2 with black point 0.4 cd/m2.

That's pretty awesome for a notebook. Thanks Toshiba for those great panels. Guess some guys here starting to love their Z's even more now...

random4567 and I used tools (not the windows built-in stuff) to calibrate the screen. I used eye one Display (i1Display2) from X-Rite: Get exactly the color you need, every time, anywhere in the world. .
The Vaio Z11/12 ususally needs only slight calibrations, which is sometimes almost not noticeable. The calibration tools also show the color space (color gamut) the display is capable of and brightness/contrast.

Unfortunately the viewing angle is so narrow on this screen that you can only see accurate color over 1/2 the screen height at a time.

hm the viewing angle is the same as with most TN displays. I usually don't look from any side on the screen when I do something on the notebook or watch a movie ;)
