Clarify my last post, the price does not include the Service Agreement. That is just the price for the computer. I ordered the 3 year with Accidental Damage for $399.99 (I can't afford to have a loss, I usually keep machines running for 5 or 6 years before replacing them). The 15% discount does not include the accessories, but I don't see why you couldn't order a mouse and a sleeve.

How is the difference between the 6g and 8g ram? Is it marginal or very distinguishable?

nice! what is Metal Mosaic in the color options?
edit: here it is:
i'm going to call tomorrow and see what discounts i can get -
-
Quick question, does ram effect gaming at all?
-
not really. 4gb is enough for anyone that doesn't do stuff like editing/design or animation IMO. I have 8gb on my work machine (design).
Personally I'll go with 6gb because i multitask a ton... but if you want to save some money i think 4gb is fine for most users. -
Am I the only one disappointed that Sony USA still do not offer the following VAIO Z CTO options:
1) HDD only instead of SSD + optical drive
2) 2x USB Ports (USB2.0) + iLink instead of 3x USB Ports (USB2.0)
By the way, it is interesting to see that Sony Canada has got the following color options available for VAIO Z CTO orders while Sony USA do not offer them as of now:
1) Metal Shield
2) Metal Mosaic -
TofuTurkey Married a Champagne Mango
You get full choice of every option.

is the 10% discount easy to get? I'm thinking of just calling them and saying i'd like 10% off or else i won't buy it.

I will buy more ram once it becomes cheaper, and I would have got the quad raid, as it is nice to have that speed and extra storage but the price not so much, Sony just has a ridiculous price for that option I am sorry but 1,300 on top of 1,900 base price is just plain ripping people off -
Interesting how all the CTO options are cheaper for Canada then for US. For once we are not shafted.

Quick question: Is the blu ray player on the Z region free or is there any possibility to play region free blu's on it?
-
So based on the recent posts, Sony is requiring the extended warranty + 2 accessories for the 15% discount? Is the discount only 10% without the warranty? Additionally, would they refund the full warranty price if you initially purchased the warranty and then cancelled it later?
I'm curious because the 3rd party extended warranty plans from provantage are priced quite a bit lower and would like to calculate the most cost effective option for purchasing a new Z. -
How does the campus connection buying work? Has anybody bought a Z12 that way? Experiences?
Thanks -

For the next 5% you have to push a bit over the phone lolx -
I got 15% off of the computer but I brought a warranty (which I will keep, dont trust those smaller dealers who may disappear in one year) but I may return one of the 2 accessories. -
so if i call them and if i want a discount they won't give it to me without taking the warranty?
I don't want the warranty since my Visa card gives me an extra 1 yr of on the warranty already. -
ahsan.mughal Notebook Evangelist
I know my AMEX also gives me extra 1 year of warranty, but I still bought 2 years service plan since 15% discount was too good lolx -
did you still save money on the 15% deal?

i called to order at sony canada and they don't offer any discounts on the z since it's brand new. All he could offer me is free expedited shipping (worth $49) and 20% off accessories.
i tried to get even 5% and it didn't work -

Bought this from tigerdirect for 1800 (price match with j&r) - 234 bing cashback = 1566.
Sony VAIO VPCZ122GX/B Laptop Computer - Intel Core i5-520M 2.40GHz, 4GB DDR3, 128GB SSD, DVDRW, 13.1 Display, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, Black at TigerDirect.com
It has only a 1600x900 screen though. Wondering whether the full HD screen is as good as everybody says it is to justify returning this and order one from sonystyle. The full HD and i5 540 with the discount and tax would end up costing 1900. Is it worth the 300 bucks difference? Regular software geek use, no creative graphic design or gaming stuff. -
probably not. as a cto it was only 35 dollars for me so i got it of course. the hd will give you some extra 'space' and slightly better colors but not 300 bucks better stuff.

I noticed that the Z12 doesn't offer 128GBx1 SSD. It only offers 128GB in a 64x2 configuration. Does anyone know if that's a disadvantage? I would assume having 128x1 would be a better solution. The Z11 offers this option.

I have a question is it possible to get the promotional discount from buying a service plan (10%) and then extra for the educational discount? because i cant remember properly but when i tried to configure the Z11 last week i THINK that i was able to get both online because my total was like 25xx-26xx and it went down to $2,0xx and i was like shocked and i just checked out for the options i want
Large Capacity Battery No Fresh Start Adobe Creative Bundle 4GB (2GBx2) DDR3-SDRAM-1066 Microsoft® Office 2010 Starter No Mobile Broadband Built-In Norton Internet Security™ 2010 (30 Day Trial) CD/DVD Player/Burner No Engraving Intel® Core™ i5-540M processor (2.53GHz) with Turbo Boost up to 3.06GHz 13.1" VAIO Full HD Premium Display (1920x1080) (Reg. price $100.00) Premium Carbon Fiber Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-bit 256GB (128GBx2) Solid State Drive with RAID 0 Technology
Plus 2Yr ADH Warranty
$ 2,669 .98
Promotional Discount - $267 .00
Tax $ 0 .00 Shipping $ 0 .00
Remaining Balance $ 2,402 .98
but the Z12 isnt adding on the educational discount so i just did the math and it came out to
15% of 2402 = 360.3
2 402 - 360 = 2 042
which seem really really perfect for me, -
2x64 is faster then 1x128 =) At least it should be faster

2669.98 - 15% = $ 2269.48 + tax -

Z11: 128GB SSD (128x1)
Z12: 128GB SSD (64x2) -
A dual RAID will perform slower than a triple RAID, which will perform slower than a quad RAID. But in real world usage you'll probably never notice. I say purchase based on the amount of storage you need. I purchased the 192GB Z11 as a compromise between price, size, and speed. I am wishing I had had more cash to spring for the slower 256GB option, as I'm already down to less than 150GB (and I even got Fresh Start, which keeps off the Sony bloatware). -
