Does anybody know of a way to adjust the threshold of the sensitivity of the light sensor that controls the keyboard backlight?

It's too sensitive right now. The brightness of the screen causes the keys not to be illuminated although it is dark and I can't read the keys.

You could try covering the sensor with different opacities or thicknesses of tape. Probably not what you wanted to hear but as far as I know no one's found any software control for it, it would probably take a very serious BIOS hacker to do it.

Looks like it's in the registry.

    HKLM>Software>Wow6432Node\Sony Corporation\VAIO Event Service\Settings\VESAutoDimmer

In there you'll find keys for KBDBacklightIlluminance High and Low and a bunch of other things. Play around with it. Be sure to back up that key first.

OK I played with it. Raise the KBDbacklightilluminancelow up a couple values....try 20 (decimal) and either reboot or restart vaio event service to test.

    Cheers.

    KBDBacklihgtIlluminanceHigh

They spelled backlight as backlihgt... o_O

LOL mine's spelled wrong too...but it works. As you raise the "low" # it gets more sensitive (backlight comes on even with more ambient light). If you lower it, it requires more darkness to activate.

Not sure what the "high" setting is. Testing that now

Yep, it works... i just dont understand... wouldnt they catch that? I mean imagine trying to program the sensor... and you keep getting an error because you spelled it wrong... unless you always spelled it wrong... Unless that's just a display name and the actual variable name is something different...

lol, programmers are notoriously bad spellers. they will misspell variables in their prototypes and never fix them in the final product

Long time reader, first time poster. I received my Sony Z13 last night and everything seems to be working great except the keyboard backlight.

The light turns on during startup but turns off almost immediately. I have adjusted the registry settings listed here and the keyboard will not turn on. I even covered up the light sensor (I think it's the circle by the indicator lights for Caps Lock, Num Lock etc) and it won't turn on.

Is there a function key to enable or disable it or is there a setting in a power plan somewhere? It's really frustrating.

Did you enable the keyboard backlight in vaio control center? Sounds like it's off. Also, it won't light up till you start typing.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't have the computer with me but when I get home from work I'll check it out.

Thanks that worked. I'm not sure how I missed that setting. I changed the keyboard to Not Turn Off and it's working the way I expected.

Does anybody know how to adjust the brightness? I would like to make it more dim but don't know how. Thanks!

Hi, Just got a Z11 refrub (for $845 - perfect condition and operation so far!) but regrettably the registry lacks the option VESAutoDimmer. Any ideas of where that setting might be hidden elsewhere, or is it more likely that this was a fix applied to the 12 after people compained? Looks like I'm left with tape over the sensor, unless anyone has a more elegant fix to recommend. (Can I really complain for $845?!)

    Thanks
