Hi there,
I just got my brand new Z13, I7 640M, quad SSD (512GB), 8GB RAM, HD Screen. I'm pretty happy with it, expect for the boot time.
Here are my times:
- Push power button to end of Vaio post bios 5 secs
- From end of vaio bios screen to starting windows 25 secs (this to me is not right)
- From starting windows to fully loaded 35 secs
So as you can see from pushing the start button to fully load windows takes about 65-70 secs. Once it's loaded is super fast.
From what I have read on the forum start up times are like 35-40 secs. So how do my times compare to other that have my setup? I have a felling that I have so much post time because of the quad-SSD.
Thoughts?

Achusaysblessyou eecs geek ftw :D
how many cursor blinks do you have between the bios and windows screen? This was discussed fairly heavily like 3 months ago in the owner's thread forum... There were reports where people would get 20+ cursor blinks. I personally get 8... and it annoys me at times. Since it's still new, you can reformat to see if it solves the problem, i think it reduced the boot times of some people's vaio Z's...

sounds about right.

I just checked and I counted about 34 blinks. So, I guess is all over the place and I'm on the slow side.
I'm just slightly disappointed that my 3 year old HP boots faster to Windows than this top of the line laptop. Once everything is loaded, then is really fast.
Anyone else with a z13 and quad-SSD care to post their boot times?
Thanks in advance. -
Jalx, you probably ran into my last thread regarding quad vs dual ssd boot times. My dual ssd was booting at 20-25 seconds from power on to windows login, and my quad ssd WAS booting anywhere from 40-50 seconds.
It was inconsistant and it made me wonder as well. After some research, I ran into Zoink's "Slow Post" thread and I was convinced that my Quad SSD has the same problem. I believe you also have the 'slow post' problem as well.
Refer to http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/484384-sony-vpc-z11-slow-post.html to read more about it.
I fixed my slow post problem with Zoink's method which required me to:
1. delete the factory raid stripe set up via Bios
2. create raid stripe with the 1st two SSDs
3. Install Windows into the newly created Raid
4. Install RST 9.6 in Windows, reboot
5. Merge the remaining 2 drives with the newly created Raid
This gave me a consistant boot up time of 32-35 seconds. However it did drop my graphics and hard disks WEI scores (WEI isn't really important as it's a trash benchmark software anyway.)
Hope this helps. Anyone have anything to add regarding the dropped WEI scores? -
Hi,
I've got a Z13 and to access the windows login, it takes 22 seconds.
I didn't mesure from the windows login to the complete boot, but it's rather fast. Do U want a more precise information ? -
-
I have just restart my Z (quad SSD, 256 Go) to verify.
From pushing the start button, 11 or 12 cursors blinks and 30 secondes to reach the windows login. And I forgot to mesure the time to complete start... I'll see tonight ! -
34 is too much, my quad gets like 10-12 blinks.
Try this, go to vaio care: system care, tune up and run tune up.
that helped me. -
Hi Blue, I have tried the sytem tune up, but nothing changed.
Edword, thanks. I missed that post. I'll give it a try on the weekend and I'll post my results.
Thanks,
