With depressing regularity I come back to my Z2 that's been asleep and find it bluescreened. It always references the module nusb3xhc.sys and the message is always about a page fault in a non-paged area.

I've tested memory and the built-in diagnostics are OK with it.

I'm going to try leaving it unconnected to the PMD and see what happens.

Try playing with the power management settings of the USB controller. Unchecking the 'allow windows to turn off this device to save power' might do the trick.

    That's an interesting observation.

OK, so I went into Device Manager and turned off any USB power saving options and I went into the power profile and turned off the "Selective Power Saving" option on the USB entry there.

It usually has crashed by the time I wake up in the morning, so it'll now be a few hours before I know anything.

    Will keep everyone informed.

Yeah, I have a lot of devices plugged in there.

That's going to be one of my tests, although I'm going to first go with the suggestion about preventing the OS from removing power from the USB devices.

This will be my second test.

My third test will be to remove the PMD altogether.

Unfortunately, the BSOD happens sometime during the night so I can only get about one test per day.

maybe it was trying to go from standby-->hibernate? or hybrid sleep (whatever MS calls it now).

There's an option in Vaio Control Centre, under Power options, for charging USB devices via the USB 2.0 port on the Z21. It's disabled by default on mine. Might be worth toggling this? Not sure if it affects the USB3 port.

Are you connecting devices to the USB3 port on the PMD or the laptop itself? Also, there could be a rogue USB device causing trouble, or perhaps ony causing trouble when your laptop automatically goes from sleep to hibernate during the night?

I don't hibernate when plugged in, just sleep.

So, last night I turned off the various power settings as suggested earlier here and when I came in this morning there was no bluescreen! That's good!

However, it also was not asleep. It was still in a power mode because the power LED was still green.

I'm going to run it this way for another couple of days and if it's stable, I'll start turning the power saving options back on one at a time.

Well, since I started fiddling I'm no longer crashing. OTOH, it no longer goes into sleep mode automatically, either.

Not sure what's causing that one!
