Well, maybe not wonky, just incredibly slow and unresponsive scrolling, one finger or two. i've tried different drivers (Sony old, Sony new, Synaptics newer) and tried "Two Fingers" the bootleg program that used to work quite well - even tried that both with and without two finger scrolling enabled in the Synaptics drivers, as it works both ways.

But no matter what i do, scrolling is incredibly slow and sometimes I have to touch the trackpad twice just to get it moving. Also having some problems with tapping, though not nearly as pronounced.

Really hoping someone has a software idea because its out of wtty and I do not want Sony's awful service, and pay for it!

Does a wired/wireless mouse work fine?

Havent tried. Will do so. Is that offered as an alternative or a diagnostic? If the latter and the wireless works fine, is the assumption its hardware problems? Thanks.

Asked that question as a diagnostic. Because if you have that issue with a mouse then we can suspect it's software based. If you don't have an issue with the mouse then we can suspect it's hardware based.

Yeah, so I figured. If it seems to be hardware based, think its worth taking apart and just cleaning and making sure things are where they should be? I'm really not interested in losing my computer for 2-3 weeks only to have it come back scratched and with a $300 bill.

    Oh, really important question:

What driver do you use? Does the trackpad work fine for you?

I've still only got the Z1. Don't ever recall updating the driver through Sony's website, so the only chance my trackpad drivers have been updated is through Microsoft Updates- which may or may not have happened.

Eh, opening it up is your call. I'd be hesitant about shipping it to Sony but I'd also be hesitant about breaking something. I think if it's not too bad to just live with it.

Maybe try and adjust trackpad responsiveness through the synaptics software?

try re installing the drivers, and restarting the computer.

my vaio z1 sometimes has an issue (every few months) and just restarting fixes it.

i have also noticed it seems to happen in a very humid condition.
