Any guides out there for disassembly of the Z3 in particular. I have seen some short videos but looking for a real guide if there is one.

    Thanks

Sorry, don't have a guide but I had to take mine apart recently to replace a cracked screen & hopefully I can provide some tips. Mine is without 3G/4G SIM so may have been easier to pull apart than yours.

    - take out the battery first
    - don't forget the 2 hidden screws under square rubber pads (two corners towards the screen)
    - lift the edge with the VGA connector first, *with* the VGA connector for about 1cm, as it is connected via a flexible flat cable - the VGA connector can then slide out of the cover hole easily
    - remember the position of the metal part for the security lock (it will just drop out while you're working on the laptop)
    - I like to tape each screw on a paper sketch of the laptop bottom so that I don't have to remember anything & also take lots of pics to remember position of wires/cables/etc
    - don't force anything, if you are meeting resistance you've got a screw somewhere still
    - don't open the laptop screen after the screws are taken out & the bottom cover is removed, because the hinges are at that point held down by one screw each - replace the second screws temporarily on the hinges if you want to open the laptop otherwise the stress can crack the plastic posts on which the hinges are
    - alternatively take the hinges off the posts by taking out the other screws (but only on the keyboard side, not the screen side
    - the PMD connector has a couple of extremely thin fibre optic wires, so take extreme care around it
    - the screen has two small screws near the bottom, take them out before the bezel covers are lifted
    - the bezel plastics are very fragile, don't force anything or the clips will snap
    - don't forget to remove the second screws from the hinge posts before the back cover goes on (if you put them in before)

EDIT: clean out all dust, especially near the fan & the heat sinks, but make sure the fan blades are held (maybe with a small screw driver or a toothpick) if you're using a vacuum

EDIT 2: small breaks can be repaired with slow setting (3 day cure time) 2 part epoxy - be patient

EDIT 3: YMMV, take care with your expensive laptop as I can't be responsible for what you do, you're welcome to take advantage of my experience but only if you accept that you're responsible for your own actions

Thanks for that, I actually don't have a problem, the laptop is still new, I just wanted to see if there is anything out there in case I do run into any issues.

    cheers

It's very easy to open compared to older Z's

Well, there is really no reason to disassemble it. It's difficult to source upgrades for it. If it's for repairs, and you can't disassemble it, you probably shouldn't be trying to do the repairs yourself as disassembly would be the easiest part :p

Anyway, various posts on the forum when it comes to people who have opened up their z2/svz

You are missing the point, any Joe can try and disassemble it, I'm just looking to collect documentation on this model pure and simple!

I must be dealing with a kid who just got his lunch money taken away from him :p Now go be a good little boy and sit in the corner while the adults chat :p

For the adults following this thread, I have found some good documentation on this model with regards to the internals from a Sony FTP site. One interesting piece was the proprietary connection to the RAID SSD's and no you can't simply drop in a 1.8". Also the Wifi board can be upgraded.

    Cheers

I would like to see all discussions kept civil. OP's intention appeared to be good, and not everyone has time to keep up to date with 170+ pages of discussions, anyway.

Update: My plan above didn't work out. The VAIO ribbon cable didn't fit the adapter, and there probably wouldn't have been enough space in there either.
