LOL I've actually seen a system like that in use - guess that gives away how old I am. I remember being very envious - it was way out of my price range.
-
I still download pr0n via Kermit protocol. Full-duplex is the best
-
I used that dial-up system. 300 baud wasn't bad. 'course I was surfin' the net with a lynx browser.

Okay, so we're agreed. The new Z should offer a QFHD display, at least as an option.
-
QFHD is more than I was hoping for, WQXGA is what I was hoping for. Either way I am happy. QFHD is better for pretty much everything, it is more resolution than WQXGA and if you scale native 1080P content for playback then you are not going to introduce any unwanted scaling artifacts.

Why no quad core? I mean, rumors are we are going to start seeing quad core in smartphones over the next year or two, don't see why we can't have quad in the Z....
Also, do we have an anticipated release? Or will we see various iterations of the Z2 (like the Z1) before we see the next generation? -

^Ha!

Can't imagine a complete rebuild with the Z2 not even a full year into the market.
-
We've got a few months left. Sony tends to announce new models in Jan of each year to coincide with CES. They become available about 30 days later
-
CES might be too fast but Q3 next year might be possible to say.
might need to wait for beaups to confirm this.
and next CES, the show will be full of Ultrabook so z3spec might need to step up a bit form those ultrabook. -
I'm pretty sure at least the last two releases were in or around CES.
It's all a bit silly to me. You'd think they would do updates in Nov to take advantage of holiday spending, but I'm no marketer.
The idea of spending another $5k in Feb isn't all that enticing, but I'm a gadget addict. Besides, it is still less than I spend on track tires each year. -
^Z2 release was in August. Announcement didn't even happen until June or July IIRC. Ivy Bridge mobile parts won't be in MP in Feb anyhow.
-
Indeed, need more coffee apparently and a look at my CC receipts.
The Z1 was a CES release tho. I remember the hullabaloo around the mysterious RAID SSD's -
-
I'd speculate a little earlier than that, but I'm only speculating at this point.
-
beaups doesn't speculate!
-
I'm guessing that an IB Z23 will likely be much the same as the current model other than the new processor which won't matter much for most people (how many users really need more computing power than an i7-26xx provides?).
I'm also guessing that the video drivers will be updated to prevent the possibility of accidental compatibility with any known program. -

^ Max CPU.
My main criteria is CPU/pound and the bigger I can make the top number and the smaller I can make the bottom one, the happier I am.
And while we're at it, let's go to 16 gigs of main memory. -

^^building projects. Just started VS2010 again (workplace wants WP7 apps, now o.0), and compiling larger projects can take a while...
Not to mention, I REALLY regret not getting the 1920x1080 Vaio Z2 when it was offered to me. Next time I have an urge to select a computer because, "it games better..."three, (four if you count my SC-->SA transition) bad choices now, slap me or something. I seriously need to stop choosing computers based on how much GPU power is has.
-
oh one more note, z3 might launch around after Win8 launch. may be....
-
^
When is Win8 supposed to launch? -
APR 2012, according to some rumors.....
-
^October '12
-
Aptober '12
-
^lol, it is October though.

When is Win9 going to launch a cut down version of Win8 that everyone suddenly loves? -
-
Most aren't loaded at startup, even if installed.
I know I can do something similar to what you just said with my Vaio SA's factory Pro install... it doesn't even have the games preinstalled -
-
Who said it all had to be meaningful? I mean, if anything, this thread might be renamed and moved into the Owners Lounge if/when the new Z3 comes out
-
I will make sure it's meaningful.
-
Meaningful doesn't mean useful.
On that note, I give you a message from the Skillful Abbot, P-Low.
Diarrhea - Japanese learning English - YouTube
The dance has meaning, but is useless. Well, it's funny as hell at least -
It's Japanese. Sony is Japanese. This thread is therefore now about Japan. W00T!

lovelaptops MY FRIENDS CALL ME JEFF!
As for funny, it is the funniest thing I've seen in a very long time - though I guess I don't spend enough time on Youtube, or get out enough, lol. +1 for making me fall on the floor. So much for a Z3 thread; too early, perhaps.
EDIT: Sorry Zoinks, seems you were the last person I repped. Perhaps someone can try to top the Japanese diarrhea video. -
ROTFLMAO!!!
There are a whole series of those clips...I laughed for weeks when I first saw them. -
Wonder what Simon Cowell would say if someone sang that for an X Factor audition.

Ivy Bridge release has been by a quarter. 22-nm Ivy Bridge CPUs may launch in March
This should give Sony plenty of extra time to ignore the drivers. -
Excellent driver jab. This is #2, keep up the good work
-
The next gen Z should have improved scratch resistance.
