In Ubuntu 12.10 I had it setup briefly without RAID and here is what hdparm -tT gave me:
/dev/sda3:
Timing cached reads: 22412 MB in 2.00 seconds = 11217.51 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 1458 MB in 3.00 seconds = 485.38 MB/sec
gnunn@gnunn-laptop2:~$ sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/sda3
/dev/sda3:
Timing cached reads: 20732 MB in 2.00 seconds = 10380.45 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 1456 MB in 3.00 seconds = 485.10 MB/sec
gnunn@gnunn-laptop2:~$ sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/sda3
/dev/sda3:
Timing cached reads: 20976 MB in 2.00 seconds = 10498.07 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 1456 MB in 3.00 seconds = 485.31 MB/sec
I'm running software RAID 0 now in the same Ubuntu 12.10 and this is what it gives me now:
gnunn@gnunn-laptop2:~$ sudo hdparm -tT /dev/md0
/dev/md0:
Timing cached reads: 23564 MB in 2.00 seconds = 11795.19 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 2436 MB in 3.00 seconds = 811.98 MB/sec
gnunn@gnunn-laptop2:~$ sudo hdparm -tT /dev/md0
/dev/md0:
Timing cached reads: 22110 MB in 2.00 seconds = 11066.01 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 2450 MB in 3.00 seconds = 816.47 MB/sec
gnunn@gnunn-laptop2:~$ sudo hdparm -tT /dev/md0
/dev/md0:
Timing cached reads: 21398 MB in 2.00 seconds = 10709.30 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 2446 MB in 3.00 seconds = 814.80 MB/sec
