Ok no doubt I am going to get slayed on here and told I am an idiot but I have been trying all day to get my WWAN working on my VGN-Z31WN (UK) to no avail.
I got my windows 7 upgrade dvd the other day and installed it as recommended by sony i.e upgrade. After the laptop seemed a lot slower, my wireless connection to ages to come online and my WWAN (on a vodafone sim) had stopped working which is my main connection method as I travel a lot.
I was generally unimpressed, so after doing a little research (on here) i decided that a clean install was the way to go. I followed sigma957 instruction to the letter. Everything was much quicker apart from the goddamn WWAN which still wont work!
I have been scouiring the internet all day trying to find a solution but cannot come up with a solution. Does anyone have the same laptop with windows 7 with a working WWAN connection?? If so how have you done it? What software are you using for the connection manager? Which driver have you used for the WWAN? I have even tried ring Sony support but they aren't even open on frickin weekend!!
Please someone help as I am getting really mad and the laptop is close to going out the window!!

Oh I should add its 32bit version which isnt helping because there seems to be a lot of info for the 64 bit version of my problem

I have the same model but from France and it works OK.
I used the driver of Z890 US model. As for the connection manager, I use Sony 3G Connection Manager -
I had a clean install of Win 7 64 bit, everything works as it should, including WWAN. Also used drivers from Z890 US model, they are Original - Qualcomm® Gobi™ Images for Sony, and Original - Qualcomm® Wireless HS-USB Modem 9222 Driver. Using Sony 3G Connection Manager to connect to Three network.

Oh ok thanks, I'll give that a go.....

Nope still not working!!
When the 3g connection software starts it comes up with an error message saying that a WWAN profile could not be made due to WWAN not being recognised. Please ensure your WWAN is turned on Blah blah blah.
Any ideas?? -
This here is a W7 32bit/64bit Z3 Gobi image for your model.

Try removing anything you've installed and shut down.
Put the wwan on with smart network.
Do you see anything in the device manager?
Try running the software if this does not work and install your drivers then go to the device manager and manually use the Gobi image driver for each of those devices that you see in the device manager.
Then install the connection software.
If this does not work try it the other way around installing the connection software first. -
Thanks guys and gals,
Contemplated not posting this (coz its going to make me look a right nob) but.....
I had left the sim card in while i was doing all this and it seems that was what caused all the problems. As soon as i removed the sim card it all installed perfectly, popped the sim card in and after a short wait while it got the firmware loaded up it connected up!! Cant believe I have spent 10 hours messing about with this when all i needed to do was remove the bloody sim card!!
Anyway, my next problem is I still have 2 items in device manager which aren't installed/missing drivers. One is a Base System Device?? and the other is SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller.
Any help greatly appreciated as i am obviously a complete idiot
