The problem got waaay worse today, less than two weeks of useNow the whole screen goes completely black except 4 or 5 of the backlights and others that flicker randomly (see picture below). I can temporarily get it back to normal if I reboot or even close the lid. But if I change the brightness to anything but 100%, then whole screen goes dark.
So, I called Sony and he remotely played with the screen brightness while I told him what was on-screen. Then he updated the bios and that did not fix it. So he created a repair ticket and I have to send it in for service![]()

Sorry to hear that -- though it looks like there are spotlights shining down on certain parts of the screen, could be good for a live stage performance...
On a serious note, I hope they get it back to you quickly. -
sorry for that , they have to fix it within 24 hours ,

Yeah, they will fix it within 24 hours, but shipping back and forth takes a week.

Gotta love fedex "overnight", on weekends it's more like 3-day. Anyways, they got my Z today and I checked my casefile online, it says "...currently with a technician... repairs take approximately 10 working days to complete." I'll post another update when they mark it complete. Who wants to take odds I will get it back before this Friday?

If it is only 10 days old. Return it. Get a new one! =]

1. Purchased at b2b site (pcmall.com), thier return policy does not allow for returns on major brands and states get support from manufacturer. I may have been able to push this but...
2. I spent those 10 days customizing vista, uninstalling bloatware, trimming processes, etc. I did not want to do that all over again.
3. As soon as it came, I immediately submitted for two rebates (mobility bundle and $450 TradeUp & Go), which require serial number, invoice, upc. Returning would instantly mean forfietting. Not to mention the box was raped of the upc. -
FedEx delivered my Z today. So Sony had it for about 48hrs. They replaced the display and it looks fine so far. No other complaints yet and sent the VAIO cleaning cloth too...
