Wondering if anyone can help me. I was using my VGN-Z555DN when it suddenly turned off. After that it is completely unresponsive. Power button does nothing, LEDs are dead no matter what I do.
What is interesting is that 10min after my laptop died I head a pop and the charger I was using started smoking(I disconnected it from the laptop after the laptop died). I'm certain the charger killed my laptop. Now I wonder if it's possible that it is just a fuse that got blown. I took my laptop apart but I can not find a fuse that I should check with the multimeter. The mother board is still attached to the base so I can't see what's behind it. Is the power fuse there or should I be able to see it with just the palm rest removed?

I believe Z555DN is a Canadian version of Z540. The motherboard is MBX-183

Just curious, are you using OEM Sony batteries and chargers?

At the time when it died I was using charger and a battery that I got on Ebay. However, both were advertised as genuine and are pretty much identical to the OEM Sony. I used the battery for over half a year with no issues. Charger was pretty much new, used it twice before, it was a secondary charger.

I wouldn't trust Ebay that would sell something as "genuine." It's possible it could be a third party charger with a Sony outside cover to look legitimate.
