When I try to customize Z590 CTO, the only option for CPU is P8400, but for Z540 CTO, P8400, P8600 and P9500 are all optional.

Sony don't want to put better cpu to Z590? I thought Z590 should be superior to Z540......

actually, i think what's happening is that they're getting rid of the remaining inventory of Z590's to make room for the Z690's. Options keep disappearing week to week. A good sign for those of us waiting for the Z690 hopefully!

But what improvement does z690 actually have? P9600? Vista-64? what else? P9600 is 2.60GHz I think, which is just a little faster than P9500. And we can always install vista-64 ourselves, right?

    PS: the pre-configured Z590UAB has a hugh discount, $650(Limited time)+$300(student discount)....But it's still more than $3000 :(... Actually I don't need SSD or Blu-ray...So If I wish I can customized a Z590 with P9500 and 320GB HDD 7200rpm, it should only cost about $2k...but it's impossible...

I called sony about it, they said they sold out of the Z590s with the 2.53, and even though they have the cpu on the lower end models, they can't mix them... I was really pissed but I found some dealers on the net

Can you point out some of the dealers who still sell Z590s with 2.53?

I just cleaned out one guys supply of the top end Z590, but new unopened models keep showing up on ebay, newegg(doesn't have 256SSD), amazon... this guy can custom order you any model from japan ( http://www.pricejapan.com/front/e_good_info.php?code=667&category=6)

They're still around, worst case just get it with the cheaper chip and install the X9100, I'm doing that on one of my 2.53's anyways.

    good hunting!
