Hi guys,
I just finished installing win 7 pro 64 last night. The latest problem I ran into is that my external drive is not showing in My Computer at all. I went to Drive Manager and the drive is shown as Unallocate disk 1. What should I do? I have bout 600GB of data. I know some people format and got things working but that's not an option for me.
Thanks

nobody? I tried to asign letter to the disk. and now the system tell me that I need to reformat the disk before use. Is there a way to access data? I'm in big trouble now.

Since Windows 7 pro can read all the disk formats that Vista Business can, the likely possibilities are:
- You inadvertently erased the master boot record. If so, the data is still there, but can't be read. To fix, run a tool like gpart from a Linux rescue CD ( not gparted) to reconstruct the MBR.
- You inadvertently formatted the drive by choosing "use all HD space" or similar during the Windows install. If so, you have truly lost everything, and have learned why having backups is smart.
- You don't have the correct USB drivers to read the drive. This can be true if it's a "special" drive, like some of the newer WDC Passport drives which come with special software to (a) circumvent Microsoft's disabling of autoplay, and (b) lock you in with software that refuses to work with drives from other manufacturers. If so, download the drivers from the manufacturer's web site, copy the files off the drive, then toss away the POS and get a standard drive instead.
Anyhow, it might help if you told us just what kind of drive it is, and how it was formatted. -
It's the Western digital home edition. The driver for the harddrive was installed correctly. I uninstalled it and reinstall several time. Everything seems to work correctly but the drive doesn't show up on My Computer. I'm running EASEUS program to recover the data right now. There's 600Gb of data on that 1Tb drive and just 200Gb free on my laptop. The program is running fine but I have no idea what it's doing to recover my data. I'm sure the data is there, but the boot was prob deleted by me. I still have no idea why this happens. I wasn't even using this harddrive to install Win 7 at all.
Z590, fresh install win 7 and now does not show extenal harddrive
