Apparently when I get the window 7 for free, its going to be a upgrade , however vaio sr lets me downgrade to xp which was 1 of the reasons I got it. So now , the upgrade won't work cause I don't have vista any more -.- . Is their a way to get back vista on my machine ? Thanks in advance.

restore to vista from the backup partition (but you will be losing everything in the process)

If you purchased the laptop with Vista installed, you should still have the product key on the bottom of your laptop. So pick up a bootleg Vista install DVD and use your product key during install if Sony won't send you the discs. I think that's one easy solution.

the best solution is what dLO GSR said. you can save all your files, and when your computer shows the Vaio boot-up press (F10) i think and it goes straight to the recovery partion which has your original OS that came preinsalled on your system, which i think is Vista in your case. including all the bloatware and original drivers installed. then from there you can upgrade to Windows 7
