Hi!
i wiped my laptop by dvd. now there is no os on my laptop. is there any step before install os?
MODEL laptop: PCG-5K1L (that's CR series)

Yes, create restore discs before wiping
-
-
What do you mean by 'wiped by DVD'??
If you used a restore/recovery DVD to wipe it, that should either have returned you to the point at which the recovery DVDs were burnt, or maybe to the factory-fresh condition off the recovery partition on the hard drive.
That is, I'm assuming it wasn't just a DVD containing one file: format.exe ?
Otherwise, it sounds like you will need operating system installation media, in CD, DVD or USB stick format, to boot your computer off and follow the installation procedure. -
Did your notebook come with recovery DVDs? If not, you are probably dead in the water here. You need the disks to restore from.
-
It will take longer than an automated repair/recovery, but carries benefits of its own, & I'm still far from clear that that isn't what the OP was actually trying to accomplish in the first place. -
I think Smart-Girl refers to the massive SSD confusion about TRIM and secure erase stuff.
In any case, just wipe your drive / delete partitions and reinstall from scratch/ use recovery disks and you are all set - new partitions will be created in the windows setup routine. -
-
-
Are these recovery DVDs the ones you referred to in your first post that you used to wipe the laptop?
-
yes. i came back to first step.
-
i didn't create restore discs before wiping? does it necessary? should i did it? oh now what should i do?!
-
What does the computer do if you put what you think is the recovery DVD in the drive and start it up?
-
hmm, give me some options. let me i boot up from it and tell u
-
startup repair - system restore- windows complete PC restore- windows memory diagnostic tool- command prompt- vaio recovery center
-
do u know what should i do?
-
Vaio recovery centre should restore the Vaio recovery partition from where it's hidden on the hard drive and return your computer to the state it was when you first bought it.
Note that unless you made your own recovery discs, you will lose anything that you saved on the computer between buying it and wiping it. But this should give you a working computer which is better than one with a blank hard drive! -
now i choose vaio recovery center, i face to these options:
windows system restore- vaio hardware diagnostic- restore c: Drive- restore complete system- rescue data- wipe and erase data
witch one should i choose? -
Restore complete system, probably.
I must say that I'm guessing here (albeit educated guessing), as I never use built-in recovery functionality on computers. But one of these options will recover your OS to factory state! -
well so i prefer to stay some ones that know which one is. and if no one find! i try Restore complete system!
because, in these days i format my hard in 3rd times.
thank you so much for every things! -

Restore complete system is the option you want to take. You didn't need to worry about creating system restore disks, since you already have those in your hands.

At this point you have only two choices.
1. Restore from the DVD's you got from the seller. Taking the Restore Complete System.
2. Do a clean install.
A clean install will require that you have:
1. A real Windows install disk (cannot be use the restore disks you have)
2. A clean install guide for you particular model (available elsewhere here on NBR. You'll need to find this yourself.)
3. A complete and I emphasize COMPLETE set of all the drivers and libraries listed in the clean install guide.
That's pretty much your only options.

i restored complete the machine. i didnt install os. it itself installed vista. i want change the current os to win7. how should i install win7? same as installing on pc? (how much does it hard!
i got tired and wish to finish installing ... excuse if i bother u
)
thank you -

First stick with Vista for a couple of days and make sure everything is functional. No battery messages, wireless works, all the function keys work.
Next, apply all of the Windows Updates to Vista. Run Windows update as many times as necessary until it says you have applied ALL updates.
Then obtain a licensed copy of Win7. And let it UPGRADE from Vista to Windows seven. Despite what others may say,Windows 7 is nothing more than a service pack to Vista. The structure of the operating system did not change at all, so it is easy to just let Win7 update itself over the top of Vista.
This will be much easier than trying to track down a clean install guide and all the drivers and libraries that you would need if you wipe out Vista and attempt to install Win7.

how can i understand that's time to upgrading?
do i upgrade it by internet connection or win7 dvd? -
ScuderiaConchiglia NBR Vaio Team Curmudgeon
I do not understand your first question.
You MUST have a licensed DVD.
Gary -
ok. thanks!
i'm updating vista. -
i updated alot of app on my os even the vista was upgraded to sp2 by internet!!
Is there any way to save these update on cd?! thats clear, it's too hard i update vista after each reinstall.
i have one partition on my hard, can i partition it by Partition magic? -
ScuderiaConchiglia NBR Vaio Team Curmudgeon
RE: Partition magic, short answer yes. Long answer look at the MANY threads here on partitioning a hard drive. No need for me to repeat the options.

Vista SP1:
Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) | Download, Deploy, Support
Vista SP2:
Windows Server 2008 SP2, Windows Vista SP2 | Download Service Pack | TechNet -
