The Z, SZ, TZ are excellent machines for the sub-notebook market .... Sony did a hell of a job.

Wouldn't it be GREAT if Sony made a notebook like the 'Z' in a 14.1" and 15.4" screen size with the same quality screen as the Z has.

Imagine, a larger screen with the same great features, keyboard, style, quality, light wieght etc it would be the best notebook in it's class.

There are 10's of thousands of orders going out for Lenovo T400's and Latitude e6400/e6500's. If you read the feedback from everyday users many aren't over impressed with the screen quality, heavy weight, running hot etc.

The market is wide open for competition for a company like Sony to come in and do it right. It would be instant success in imo.

Plus if they offered a variety of resolutions, even LED 1280 x 800 on a 15" Sony Z would sell very well. There is a LOT of people 30/40 years old and up that insist on that resolution, rightfully so everyones eyes become a little far sighted as we grow older.

I dunno, I hope Sony reads this forum and this post :) , lol, they'd clean up Dell, Lenovo, even HP and Toshiba wouldn't know what hit them.

I've used a lot of noteobooks, this Sony Z is a dream machine, it just fails short where some people want at least a 14" screen and often a 15" screen even though they travel.

Yes, Sony has the BZ and a few consumer notebooks that could fill that need but they don't because they're not the quality and design of the Z.

That's my idea for the day anyway :)

My opinion is that the Vaio brand shines most in the smaller models, that's where the real innovation, style, design, etc. is like the TX, TZ, X505, Z, UX, etc. Its in the smaller models where they introduced things other manufacturers followed like LED backlighting, switchable graphics, glossy screens, etc.

I feel that for their larger models like the FW and AW, other manufacturers can match or beat Sony in them but not so much in their smaller models. Nobody else has an 11 or 13" notebook with as good as screens as in the TZ/TT and Z for example. The X505 was the Macbook Air of its time, and even has more ports than the MBA save for wireless internet which wasn't as crucial in 2004 as in 2008.

I would love to see Sony produce larger versions of the Z. :)

Here's what Sony needs to release next IMO, an updated VAIO PictureBook...

Keep the original magnesium alloy chassis, but make the footprint under 9x6", weight under 2.0lbs, 8.9" LED display (XVGA or higher), backlit keyboard, either 1.4GHz SU9400 Core 2 Duo (or maybe a fanless 1.6GHz N270 Atom) CPU, 2GB RAM, user replaceable 1.8" HDD (or 1.8" SSD option), AGN Wi-fi, 2.1 Bluetooth w/A2DP profile, SD/MS card slot, 2 USB ports, flush 6-cell battery, and give it a 5-hour real world battery life.

Options for WWAN and GPS would be nice, as well.

Get it into production and on the market before the netbook craze slows down, and sell it for $800 to $1200 USD depending on configuration. Now that would be a dream VAIO for me!

It would be great if Sony produced larger versions of the Z series, preferably something like 14"-15". This would be an ideal configuration for such a notebook, in my opinion:

    Processor: 2.53Ghz.+
    RAM: 4GB DDR3
Hard Drive: 200GB+ (7200RPM only), SSDs
    Display: 14"-15"
    Resolution: 1366x768 Dura-view
Graphics Card: Ati HD3650, nVidia 9500GS, or nVidia 9600GT + Switchable Graphics
The rest of the features should remain the same.

An enlarged Z series notebook with configurations like these and you have a winner in my book! :D

If they every do make an enlarged version of the Z series (14"-15"), what do you think they'll call it? The X series?

    I'd love to see Sony make a 1.7kg, 14", 1440*900.

Fujitsu makes a 1.7kg 14" but it lacks style.

Wouldn't it be 1366x768 instead, due to the new screen sizes?

If they do come out with such a notebook, it will probably be something like 14.6".

I wanna FW 1600x900, HiColor, DDR 3 RAM, GeForce 9800M GTX or Mobility Radeon 4850 and still keep the same dimension and weight of the original FW.

Knowing Sony, they won't include such a power graphics card in the FW series. I was hoping for a 9700GTS at most...Then again, anything is possible.

I had a C1MVP and would love it if Sony updated it. IMO it was the perfect size and weight for a netbook. It also had a 1280x700 resolution on a 8.9 inch screen had bluetooth webcam PCMCIA slot two usb ports memory stick reader slot. If it wasn't for its crappy Transmetta Crusoe CPU I would have kept it. If they made it with your specs I would definitely buy one =p

My ideal laptop, the Sony Z which i have now with a Backlit Keyboard (like a neon blue backlit), blueray (not in the UK), 320gb SSD.

I'll be really really happy, instead of being just being happy.

A Z590 with a 15.4" and everything else the same (just the bigger screen) would be my dream laptop

Vaio Z with ESata, Expresscard 54 slot, backlit keyboard option and external graphics like ATI XGP, maybe possible with the future Expresscard 2.0 standard?
