    Hi!
my first post but reading this forum for a while.

I'm going to get a new vaio z. I don't need an optical drive but want to use SSD and HDD both.

    My thoughts:
    - get a customized model without ODD
    - replace the HDD by Cruzial 256 GB SSD
    - put a 640GB WD or if space allows (12,5mm) a 1 TB at the empty ODD place
    - buying this without ODD should solve the hole-in-the-case problem (btw: does this model have a bezel or a new chassis?)

... but has this model micro sata connector or can it be purchased as spare part? I'm afraight that the model without ODD won't have a connector at all ... anyone has one of these models and opened the case yet?

This has been discussed to death before, and you'll find numerous threads about it.
The short answer is that the Z has two drive bays:
The optical bay that can take a 2.5" 9mm drive
The SDD bay that (without advanced modifications) can only take 1-2 special 1.8" drives which you can't buy in any store.

If you have to ask, you likely don't have the skills to do the mod. Not only are the connectors non-standard, but the dimension of the drives are different too.
