i bought the tz50b (cause its cheaper than the tz90) but it has a japanese keyboard so the backslash does not work and the @ : and () keys are all in different places, is there a way to customise the keyboard so that i can use all the keys in their current positions? or is there anywhere i can buy an english keyboard for the tz?
    thanks

argh... I am not sure how I can help with that...

I initially ordered Jap keyboard (as I thought it would be cool-enough to carry that), however, I realized that Jap keyboard has different layouts like (). since I do programming a lot, this was a mission-critical for me, so I cancelled that order and re-ordered with Eng keyboard.

Yes you can customize this. It may take some seeking though.

I had this problem on a laptop with english keyboard running dutch XP. In the end i fixed it. Somewhere in Windows i had to tweak, Language, country and keyboard settings.

Phil, but I think fmc159 asked for actual, physical Keyboard....
I am not too sure about Dutch Keyboard setup, however for Jap keybaord I know its physically different..!!
    for examples, as fmc159 said.

A symbol like ( and ) are not in 9 and 0 !! Thus, this can be confusing especially when typing... well, at least for me, I'd like to stick with English keyboard layout with symbols all stationary

So I guess he could 'tweak' the settings ,

    e.g., pressing "Shift + 9 will display (" ,

however this can 'further' confuse him because really, that "(" is painted somewhere else, I think it is in number 8 or 7. !!

btw, I havent tried Bx5 utilities, I will try that when I get home.

actually, you are probably right Phil, i didnt read it carfully :p

But as I said, even then....unless he can type keyboard 'without' even looking at a single prints on it all the time.., then yes, I think he can customize it. (and not get confused by the physical keyboard layouts)

For me, even though I can type 80-100WPM, I do sometimes look at the keyboard prints just to set my fingers on it, and having to see physical prints wrongly would defintely confuse me,
which means, either he'd have to scrap off the prints on the keys and add some stickers to it.
Sorry, I didn't know about Dutch keyboard layout till now, (I just checked on gogle image), I see your point Phil as you also have physically different layouts....

www.customkeys.com may help. they sells 'sticker's that can be used on any keyboard

Anyway good luck to him. :)

thanks for ur help, just to be clear, iwas asking for either the physical keyboard or a way to customise the japanese one, i have sorted the problem now, all i had to do was set japanese as my keyboard layout and now all the keys work in the position they are displayed (even though this isdifferent from the english layout)
