I tried doing this today, and i am having trouble getting the function keys and shortcut keys to work properly( i only have the volume keys working now), plus there is an error that keeps happening where it says the battery is either not connected or is non-compatible with the computer( had to stop the process in task manager). Is there a correct order to install the drivers to get everything to work good?
    thanks

I am having the same issue here. Going on my 5th install to get everything working properly.

I followed the link posted above and I am a little concerned that he has the Sony Utilities and Shared library installed last. Of all the other clean/semi-clean install posts I've read, they always say to install those two first before anything else.

Also, if you see read other posts from the original poster, he seemed to have an issue with the Sony Utilities starting late (30-45 seconds) after the Vista Welcome screen.

Also, look at this link where Sony esupport also says to installed Utilities and Shared library first (Note : this install procedure is for a SZ2 not SZ6). Not sure if that matters. http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/support-info.pl?template_id=1&info_id=172#install

Although you very well may be correct, the times that I tried to install the shared library files and notebook utilities first were the worst of my reloads yet...constant battery errors (until I stopped the service)...it wasn't pretty...

I was confused about this as well and cannot find a definitive answer, so I guess I'll continue with trial and error...

I am going to try the linked poster's method later today and will post how it works out...

Well, I did a little more reading and I think I will go this route :

Follow the steps from this guide :
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=145748

Even though this guide is for a FZ, I only want to know the order of steps to install the drivers. Of'course I will be using all SZ6 drivers instead of the FZ.

Quick question : I know people are doing Vista updates after the first install, but how are they going on-line without loading the wireless card drivers first?

I am familiar with that walkthrough and I tried it with little success...I am curious how it will work for you though, so please post up your experience.

As for the windows updates, I may be mistaken, but I think the ethernet port is loaded with the Vista install...so that should work for an update connection...

Which order or post did you follow?

Did you do the Vista updates before anything else?

Iam currently doing an install right now with doing the Vista updates first, shared library next, and Utilities about last. I'll let you know how it goes.

Have a look at my thread. Install the utils in this order and let me know if your Fn and brightness keys work.

Please update the thread if they do so other SZ users can benefit.

Had a quick read of the above link and it looks like P1's solution is an image restore, not a OS install. If you create your own ISO you can at anytime integrate the latest drivers and once the installation is complete install only the utilities you need/want.

Plus with vLite you can further remove any MS bloatware.

Having said that the P1 offer for only $25 is a bargain.

Okay - I just installed Vista (again)...

I am pleased to report all functions (including function keys) are working perfectly.

For the record I followed the order listed by Synthesia in this thread:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=169461

Just thought I would post a quick update and thank everyone for their help.

I had similar problems doing my clean install. In any case, the order suggested on the sony esupport site works fine. I did recieve that annoying battery error problem during my installation, but as I continued installing the drivers it eventually went away (although it is annoying since you can't close it). After insalling all the drivers (except the useless video ones, and a modified touchpad) everything worked fine. I then installed the windows update through automatic updates.
