anyone know how to disable the light sensor in the Intel drivers downloaded from Intel?
i would love to use current drivers but Sony screwed up coding and the sensor can't be disabled by default drivers
-
If you mean the sensor that changes the brightness of the screen accordingly, that can be disabled. Look under the Vaio Control Center/Display/Automatic Brightness Settings and uncheck the "Adjust brightness automatically".
-
but you cant install intels drivers. its something in the driver software
-
There's an option in vaio control center that will disable the screen from auto adjusting the brightness and if you want, you can also disable the backlit keyboard from turning on.
-
why because they are better and updated. sony takes forever and cripples the options. so far thats the only thing I cant bypass.
this is one reason nvidia fans love laptop2go drivers. -
Just wondering... why do you want to disable the light sensor? It's only real function is to adjust the screen brightness and the backlit keyboard, both of which can already be done through vaio control panel. And what exactly is the intel driver you are referring to? I'm pretty sure there's no intel driver that controls the ambient light sensor.
-
the intel HD display driver trips because sony has coded it to work with their drivers only which makes the light sensor go and make the screen dark.
and I don't install all that crappy sony software.
why install something that windows does better? -
Judging from what I read from your signature, you haven't installed any Sony software on your S laptop.
The thing is, if you don't install some of their software, you would not have any control over certain features of your laptop, which Windows have no control over what so ever; which in your case, the ambient sensor.
Anyways, you only need only install two extra things anyway:
Sony Shared Library ( http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VPCS111FM&upd_id=5254&os_id=45)
and
Notebook Utilities ( http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VPCS111FM&upd_id=5413&os_id=45)
After that, you would pretty much have control over the ambient sensor. -
but if i only install the sony video drivers I do have total control over my laptop.
and I would prefer to not have to install any drivers from sony.
but sony likes to cripple their stuff -
You can't use anything else at the moment (unless you want to experiment with NVidia Optimus drivers, and that requires some knowledge)
Sony is using custom hardware configuration, where NVidia GPU is linked to Intel's graphics - and they work together.
In order to support that, a custom driver package is needed. You can't just install stock Intel driver (or stock NVidia driver) and expect it to work.
Also, for control of the GPU switch you will also need Sony's extensions to the firmware interface (SFEP driver) - this is also because Sony is using custom messaging for those "special" buttons and switches.
Finally, you will need Sony's Smart Network (Europe) or SmartWi (USA) if you want to turn off certain wireless cards and leave others on - for example, if you need WLAN only but want to keep WWAN and Bluetooth off to save power - there is no other way to do it other than through Sony's software which also requires SFEP driver.
You don't have to install ALL Sony software, and indeed - most of it is bloated crap. But you will need bare essentials if you wish to be able to use the full potential of the laptop, and these "bare essentials" are:
- Sony video drivers (NVidia+Intel package)
- SFEP driver
- Sony Shared Library
- Sony Setting Utility
- Vaio Event Service
- Vaio Control Center
- Smart Network (Europe) or SmartWi (USA) -
my s only uses intel drivers. if it had the nvidia drivers I wouldnt have this issue as I kno how to change the inf in Nvidia dll's just not intels
anyone modify Intel HD drivers to disable ambient light sensor
