I just bought my Vaio FZ last month and its been great. The battery was also really damn nice as well. I recently noticed in the past week that on battery, my laptop quickly dwindles down to around 50%, but after it hits that magical point it seems to operate as "normal" by going really slow. I tried running it down to the cutoff to recalibrate it but I don't believe it worked. I read the battery guide and I try to take care of my battery. Does anybody have any other ideas?
Also, my computer came with an extra battery (extra capacity too!). Its still in the box and I planned on pulling it out once this battery dies. Is it okay to sit in the box for a while, or should I be exercising that battery as well? It has never been used yet and the box is still sealed. thanks!

No matter what, your battery will continue to lose some of its maxed life, whether used or new. Keeping batteries in refrigerators will greatly slow down the battery drain, so you may want to do that with your spare battery until you actually have to use it.

According to this website, you want to keep it at 40% charge when storing it also.
