obviously there are a ton of bloatware programs to uninstall. i cant find it all is the problem. if you go to my computer and use the uninstall a program tab under that.. it still doesn't really work that well.

i cant find a way to uninstall spiderman garbage.

and a ton of other things.

    any tips?

i'd rather not make a recovery disk right now, maybe in a couple days. ;[

I used the control panel software uninstall to uninstall my bloatware. it worked with all of it..then just some cleanup to do in the program files directory.

If you want to go all the way back to the "out of the box state", you can do a system recovery. Just shut down and then power backup, as the machine boots up hit the F10 key. This will boot the machine from the restore partition. Then MAKE A SET OF RECOVERY DVD'S. Don't say I'd rather not do it, maybe in a couple of days. Do it now. Then you can play around all you want, knowing you can always get the system back if you need to.

I attempted to make the recovery dvds earlier, it gives me an "error : 300" box.

I'm attempting to restore in safe mode right now.

    who knows if that'll work.

Forget safe mode. Power off, and as you power on hit F10. (Not F8 for safe mode... F10). This should boot you into the recovery partition.

Starting to make recovery discs. How long does this take? It's not giving me an estimated time.

Also, once I do this - do I just insert the disc while I boot up or do I press f10 and go from there?

RE: the time it will take... I can't say for sure I did it a couple of weeks ago. That same F10 option should allow you to do the actual restore as well. Once you have the DVD's you have two options for a full restore to "out of the box" state.

    1. Boot from the first DVD.
    2. Boot without the DVD in place but hit F10. (like you just did). Using this second option, you should see two "sub" options. One for creating the DVD's and another for doing a restore. This second method doe NOT use the DVD's. It uses the hidden recovery partiton.

BTW now that you have the DVD's the first one has another useful function. Once Vista is running, if you pop in the first of the two DVD's a dialog will popup and tell you if you want to do a restore you need to boot from the DVD, but if you want to run the individual driver and application recovery program click OK (or enter I forget the actual wording). If you do that you will see a display with two tabs. One listing all the drivers. The other listing the various applications. This little program will let you reinstall specific things.

There is more detail about this program and more info about what is REQUIRED on your machine and what is not in the thread link in my signature below. Read it before you embark on deleting things again! ...big ol' grin...

Well, it gave me an error when trying to make the first cd.

not sure what the error said, about to try it again..

it automatically closed the recovery disc application though.
