i have a broken sony vaio z1va. it doesn't power up and i haven't tested w/ charged batteries. i also tried using different but compatible ac adapter but it still doesn't power up. i'm thinking it has something to do with power connector or the motherboard. this may sound like a stupid question but does sony accept dead laptops as trade in since it's going to be recycled anyway? i couldn't find any answers on their website so any help is appreciated. but i'm guessing my best bet would be to ebay for parts?

No Sony dont accept dead laptops as trade in! Or ANY laptop as trade in for that matter! Best bet it to sell it for spares or repair on ebay.
