i've tried googling and searching for this fix but i'm stuck. i'm trying to save some juice on my sz by turning off the cd/dvd drive. but it won't turn off as the pop up balloon says something like "can't turn off cd/dvd rom.... it's being used." is there a fix for this?

there's no disc in the drive and it's shut.

    thanks

In that state, the power draw is minimal you're not going to see much extra battery life by turning it completely off.

I have this same problem: My computer thinks my cd tray is open and so I can't turn off power to it during startup (even though it is in fact close).

I know it won't save very much battery, but I'm wondering if its a defect or something as my cd tray is also very loose.

On the SR they remedied this problem by having a icon on the windows tray that you can right click and just select "power off".

Someone on another thread informed me this is not present on the SZ...perhaps a download?

I just got my sony Vaio VGN-SR290 CTO delivered yesterday. Everything is peachy fine on it, except my CD tray is also very loose. It can be very easily pushed further in to where it's not completely flush with the side of the laptop. It's kind of springy if that makes sense. You push it in further, then it springs back a little. It's just not sitting right I think. I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem or has found a fix for it.

It works fine otherwise, can read and write DVDs etc. But it's just a little jiggly and very loose when you pop the tray out. Any advice would be most appreciated.
