You don't need a driver for external displays.

If you are running vista press win-x and that will bring up the mobility center, click the display button on that and see what happens.

This shouldn't be a hardware problem, is your laptop set to stanima or to speed mode? Try using speed mode.

If you press FN-F7 there should be a config option, there is an option to "Change the external display method". Give that a go.

Also if you get properties on the desktop how many displays do you have?

it shows two moniters, and when i connect it recognizes a second moniter, but it wont display onto the TV. The TV is not recognizing any input, it works fine when my friend tries it.

So windows is saying that it is displaying on the second monitor. What happens if you make that monitor the only display. I.e. disable the laptop monitor.

Also set the resolution to 1280x1024.

Make sure you are on speed mode.

This shouldn't be a problem, I've already hooked it up to my HDTV fine.

Let's start with the basics. How are you connecting the SZ to the TV? Via VGA, or are you using the docking station and using DVI? Are you sure the cable isn't the problem?

If you post what model TV you have exactly, it might provide more information that is useful in figuring out why it's not working.

From speaking with someone else about this issue, I can confirm that older SZ iterations work properly with the Sony KDL-40XBR2 LCD TV via its PC Input/VGA input, and can output at 1920 x 1080 resolution using that particular connection.

That's all the information I have on this issue; hope you get this resolved.

I connect to the TV using the pc/VGA input. The cable is fine as my roommates IBM connects to the TV just fine. Ive tried multiple resolutions with nothing working.

I have a samsung 23 inch hdtv. the sz6 does not even detect the tv in speed mode. However, i am able to connect my tv perfectly in stamina mode. THe onyl solution i have so far is to conenct the tv in stamina and then reboot in speed if i wanted to use the nvidia graphics.

I have yet find another solution for the sz6 to detect the hdtv in speed mode. I tried windows mobility center, fn7 hot key, nvidia control center, etc etc...Nonoe of the application detects the presence of my tv being connected via the VGA.

I think there is a software issue with this hybrid graphics when it comes to external monitor connection. Maybe if we ***** about it to sony something can be done?

Can you watch HD movies on your HDTVs ?? Connecting via VGA seems to make problems, or does it work well?

What about the Audio out, what about the quality of Audio?

I had the same problem, untill i did exactly what he said. Press Fn+F7. Select setup. try checking/unchecking the "Detect the external display dtection method". If that doesnt work, change the display resolution to 1024x768 and retry.

EDIT: I forgot you said you have XP, so skip step 3 :) hope it helps

im not trying to watch HD movies from my sony, i have a DVD player for that and it works fine with HDMI, i have alot of video on my hard dr that i would like to project to the TV. The VGA input on the tv works fine with my friends IBM.
ill try that method in a bit when i get home with the checking and unchecking.

when i go to graphics properties, the computer does recognize the TV, but it still does not display on the tv.
