i recently had a little problem with my z12 where the hinge was damaged as well as part of the screen, which cost me upwards of $500 to get fixed. I want some way to protect that thin and flimsy screen and hinges, so I was hoping to buy a hard shell, like I've seen on so many macs (not a sleeve), but after searching amazon/ebay/forums/etc haven't been able to find anything besides a hard plastic thing that snaps onto the back of the laptop lid. I was REALLY hoping someone could point me in the right direction on this one, so any ideas to help protect my laptop?

    Thanks!

    thanks for the quick replies!

I was actually looking for something more along the lines of the speck hard shells for macbooks ( link)

I want something to protect my z1 while I'm using it. while the mach 3 composites case looks great (love the cf design!) it doesn't seem to be a great solution to my problem, as the impression by xxgenericsnxx said the case blocks the z1's cooling vents and doesn't let it tilt past 90 degrees without forcing the back upward. I might not mind using the laptop in a case like this if it didn't have these problems, but then again I don't know how awkward such usage might be.

I read somewhere that the cases like the hard shell for macbooks isn't usually made for PCs because they vary too much in design, but I was hoping someone might cater to the buyers of such expensive laptops as the vaio z...

I'd also appreciate any DIY shell solutions or anything that'd help in this regard, if anyone knows of anything besides "be more careful"

I didn't realize you wanted to use it in the case. The M3C offers great protection when you travel. I don't know of anything that would protect the computer while you use it.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen any hard shell case for modern Vaios nor do I know of a DIY method to make one work. Sorry!

I was a bit optimistic after catching a glimpse of a vaio (CW i think?) with a transparent orange shell when I went by starbucks the other day, but haven't seen anything anywhere online. Guess I'll just have to be a lot more careful with my laptop. But thanks for the help guys!
